^ And taking our civic leaders and their predilection for demolition into account, why am I not surprised?

So here's the latest rumor. Apparently Curran told a neighbor across Broadway from the site that work would begin in April. He was full of excuses including bad advice from an engineer regarding steel he would need in the ground. I'll believe it when I see it.

sad... St. Louis STILL hasn't learned anything.. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see something of equal or better value in its place..

Beautiful building. Terrible. That first picture looks like something out of the Jolly Green Giant.

I agree.

The real landmark on that site was the bluff itself. At least the smaller scope of the project -- unlike the original plan -- preserves more of that.

They've got an ad in the West End Word this week. Prices start in the mid $400,000's. Looks like a new website, too. mississippibluffs.com

I can only add that if someone thinks they're getting to Tower Grove Park in 6 minutes they're smokin' something better than I've ever found in South StL.

I live just a few blocks from there, and if going 55 north to 44 then to Grand at 80mph, you can be at TGP in 6 mins... hehe

I think that includes going down Grand at 80 mph.

I checked out the website- these places look alright for what they are. It's hard to glean too much from the small renderings, however.

I never thought I'd see the day that any residential in this area would sell for more than $400K.

I guess the riverview and the convenient location will be strong selling points, but these things had better be beyond nice since I can think of many more desirable places to spend that kind of money (assuming I had that kind of $$$, of course).

Fifteen minutes to South County Center and six to Tower Grove Park? They need to pass the pipe, because I want whatever they're smoking! (If anything, I think they got those two figures reversed.)

Here's the listing for Mississippi Bluffs on gundaker.com.

Suddenly the asking price is $609K? Ouch!

The units look nice enough with plenty of terrace space to enjoy the great views, but I wish them luck trying to move those units for that price.

Will that landscaped walkway be private, or will it be open to every inebreated teenager returning from a drunken debauchery down at the river?

At least they have finally started construction, I was thinking this project might be dead in the water.

I was part of a focus group that the developer put together quite a while ago when the development was much larger, but it looks like he kept the best part. These units are unique with some of the best views of the river and its workings. Across the river is a large floodplain and the height of the bluff these units sit on is makes your views very dramatic. The location also give you easy access to 55. I think this is a great opportunity for someone who wants to enjoy the river without the upkeep of a large old house and lots of land.

I checked this place out Monday, and I think its will be a very attractive development. The views are great. I really hate loosing the old mansions along the bluffs, though.
