DECATUR - Millikin launched a new capital campaign Friday laying out its plan to raise $85 million in the next five years to rebuild and renovate three campus buildings, the soccer and football fields, plus provide more scholarships for students.
President Doug Zemke revealed plans for a new student university center and additions to Griswold Physical Education Center and the Old Gym.
Currently, Richards Treat University Center serves as the student center. The building will be torn down and replaced with a new, three-story student center at a price of $27.2 million. The new building will be double the size of the current student center and should better accommodate Millikin's student body size, Zemke said.
Also, a new 33,000-square-foot wing will be added to the north side of Griswold. Updates will also be made to both the football and soccer fields. In total, the renovations will cost $16 million
The capital project will also include a 34,000-square-foot addition on the west side of the Old Gym. The renovations will create more space for the theater and dance programs. The updates will cost $15.5 million.
The rest of the capital funds are designated for student scholarships and faculty development.
As a former Millikin student and member of some of their student government organizations (Not Student Government Association...I was on the Activity Fee Financial Committee) I've heard rumors about this for years now and actually seen some of the original improvement renderings...and lucky for you I actually have two saved on my computer!

If you look closely on the top left hand corner you will see a building under construction. This building actually has been finished for quite some time and is the brand new science building. It includes research labs, classrooms, and even a telescope and observatory on the roof. For what it looks like now, see picture below.
