Are there any stops within walking distance of John Cochran VA Medical Center?

And I have often heard the horror stories about drug deals in the actual hospital, etc, because the area is so rough. Is this true? I was told this by my colleagues at another VA Medical Center when I was an intern there. Also, would it be safe to walk to a Metrolink train station from JC VAMC at night?

Depends on your definition of "walking distance." The Grand stop is roughly 600 S. (in the middle of the bridge below SLU); Cochran is 900 N., above Powell Hall. Just under a mile.

You're walking through the SLU campus and Grand Center. It depends upon your tolerance for largely unpopulated urban areas. If there's a concert or play, for example, there are bursts of pedestrian traffic and lots of security until 11-12 at night.

I'd say it's at least a mile down Grand to a Metrolink stop - not the best walk day or night, but not the worst.

Wow, I was hoping more of a 1 or 2 block walk.

Guess that means that if I do get the job there (crossing my fingers, praying a lot) I'll just have to drive in. I've always wanted to drive the Illinois/Missouri border to St. Louis at 7:30 in the morning :?

You could take the 70 Grand on days you don't feel like walking that mile.

I just plotted the Metrolink/bus route you'd take. The good news is that there are fairly frequent trains; the bad news is the layover at transfer is generally estimated at 12 minutes, which seems a bit excessive to me for such a heavily traveled corridor. (One of the four times I plotted had a 7 minute layover.)

Try this to plot your own routes and times.

Jax, whatever that meant, I think I would be down for that too. It's not walking the mile that would bother me, it would be showing up for work 20 minutes earlier (when Im already going to have to drive over an hour to St Louis for the first few months any way).

THANK YOU for the Metro TripFinder. I was trying to find something like this via Google, but I couldn't find it!

Thanks!

Disturbing.

On the TripFinder, I put in O'Fallon, IL to 910 N Grand Blvd and it gave me something of a 3 hour trip via Metrolink?

It may not recognize o'fallon. Try starting at the Shiloh-Scott metro stop.
