Yikes, what will they do with the money then? I'd probably vote for this, though I understand why others will not, but I certainly don't want this to be a "BRT or nothing" deal.
Wow you're right I didn't even realize that. There's literally no way for the voters to re-assert the 2017 opinion. Why would Green have it worded like that?

Where is that wording? I have yet to find it. If its the case this would be a ridiculously ill-conceived bill.
It's framed as a re-authorization. Yes keeps the tax and allows use on BRT, No removes the tax presumably.TheWayoftheArch_V2.0 wrote: ↑Nov 20, 2025Where is that wording? I have yet to find it. If its the case this would be a ridiculously ill-conceived bill.
Lol there's the disappointment: https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... -vote.html
The wind blows both ways as far as I'm concerned. I doubt Spencer consulted with Metro or the BOA before ditching the Green Line. Like even Taubly Roach, whom I don't like, was in the media disappointed with Spencer's decision on that.
What a dumb thing to say honestly. I expect politicians to have opinions on things, yes, like if she said "I have some issues with this legislation and would like to see it amended" or whatever. But some self-important pout about how a bill in our city's legislative body wasn't run by her first? Weak.

Passage of the Ballot would allow for Metrolink or BRT.... it wouldn't necessarily kill Metrolink, but with the political winds blowing the way they are it likely would have that effect. What happens if it does not pass is a bit unclear and may need some cleaning up.

I agree with you… Why take away what people voted for years ago for your own selfish interests… this is a stain on her leadership…. I’m not against bus rapid transit just I think light rail will serve St.Louis better in the future in the long run..goat314 wrote:I hope it fails. If the ballot language had originally said “BRT or LRT” it would’ve passed with just as much support. The true miss here was the original language being so strict.
What are Cara Spencer’s selfish reasons for canceling MetroLink? Is the progressive alt-left bike enthusiasts owned by the car lobby?

Also, if Megan Green had reason to believe that Spencer was acting in special interest, why introduce legislation at all? Why not let the administration come to its own conclusion instead of proactively introducing a legislation that could clear the way? Why not compel the legislation or voters to enforce LRT?
Not everything is a local political conspiracy theory. Green and Spencer support public transportation and want this money spent.

Yeah I see this Green vs Spencer thing as being about Spencer wanting to find a legal work around whereas Green wants a popular mandate for the change.

^And how do you vote if you want to make sure there isn't a mandate or a workaround, but you still want the money to be there when the work with arrives instead?
^ not a bad question. My guess is we will have a map/plan from bi-state and Mayor’s office before the vote in April. I think that plan will include a short MetroLink run + BRT. That plan would survive both today’s existing language and the new language.
The only bad outcome is if the vote fails. Which isn’t an impossible outcome IMO. If BOA fight over this proposed language (media attention), if Spencer and Green fight over this (media attention), if Bi-State botches a plan relaunch (media attention)… it could all blow up to a heated election and STL getting what the existing account can pay for. Maybe a one mile streetcar.
I’m skeptical the BOA will hand the voters a loaded gun though. I’d think there is a way to avoid the reauthorization in favor of a simpler language change.

They said that they will have a route plan in December back in September.addxb2 wrote: ↑Nov 22, 2025^ not a bad question. $1.4M on a $400M project and they want people held accountable? This type of pearl clutching investigative (gotch ya) journalism is so cringe. It just reveals how stupid the general population and journalist are.
“They’re wasting YOUR money.” Yeah and they’re also maintaining YOUR transportation to work. Sit down. Shut up. And say thank you.

Has anyone ever found out why the buses have the "FARE REQUIRED" on the front display boards? I mean I know why, but how bad was/is non-collection on the buses? What % of riders weren't/aren't paying?
I assumed the driver wouldn't let you on unless you paid, something that is much harder to enforce on MetroLink (minus $50 million security gates). Maybe telling people "No" is too risky.dweebe wrote: ↑Dec 05, 2025Has anyone ever found out why the buses have the "FARE REQUIRED" on the front display boards? I also assumed it. There have been a very few times where I've seen drivers let people on without paying or passes/transfers.Tim wrote: ↑Dec 05, 2025I assumed the driver wouldn't let you on unless you paid, something that is much harder to enforce on MetroLink (minus $50 million security gates). But if HQ is programming the headboards to say "FARE REQUIRED", then there's got to be a systematic problem.
