Looks like an interesting plan can't want to see more but I hope the architecture looks good. With the apartments and grocery store at the Emerson park station the metro east maybe already leading the region with new TOD

I've always felt that Metro East was way more accepting of Metrolink.

^ As far as St. Clair County, you may be right. But not Madision County.

^ Well Madison doesn't have Metrolink anyway, so that's a non-issue. Its like saying St. Charles isn't embracing Metrolink, doesn't matter. What's sad is how St. Louis County, the county with the most Metrolink hasn't established TIF District for North Hanley, St. Charles Rock Road, UMSL which all had extensive TOD studies done, basically laying out how TOD should move forward at these stations. Maplewood, Brentwood, Shrewsbury, Richmond Heights have all been huge failures in this area. Clayton and University City have been way more receptive. North County burbs want to do it, but dont have the capabilities without significant outside contributions.

For people that dont know, Fairview Heights is just moving forward with the phased plan it developed last year with OneSTL. Maybe other plans are moving forward its just coming to fruition slower, I dont know!

Pretty ambitious vision - Phases 1- 4:

This thread should probably be moved to the Metro East section of the forum.

^ Yes, but I actually think the plan is very much achievable. There has been a lot of talk about the pent up demand for urban living in St. Louis, but there has been little talk about the pent up demand for TOD housing in St. Louis, not just for urban yuppies, but low wage workers, working class people, elderly people, young people who want to rent and don't want to own a car etc. We will likely need tens of thousands of housing units with access to transit (favorably Metrolink), but I just dont see a big push being made. I think the best shot we have is Delmar Station Plans and probably UMSL.

^ I agree it's doable but I also think its missing two things.

first it has no vision for the other side of the tracks. Maybe its taboo to dream about tearing down a subdivision but i don't see how it makes sense to plan to stop at the tracks. obviously the east side would be built out first so anything on the west side would wait until the east side is built out.

secondly they didn't include any provisions for commuter parking. I realize you want an urban enviroment, but looking at the google maps view of the station that parking lot is pretty packed. maybe the image was taken during a cardinals game but if not they should consider including a 3-4 story garage to the plan

^^ Also not only no vision west of the tracks but looks like no access point to get to the other side either. Some sort of path would be helpful. Also I wonder if some sort of trail along the creek could be worked on as well.

I think that's exactly why there's no plan for the west side of the tracks/creek. The land to the east is undeveloped and/or underutilized. The land to the west of the creek and tracks is a suburban neighborhood/subdivision.

Most likely it wasn't. Fairview Heights is the busiest Metro East station and one of the busiest overall, cards game or not.

On Google Maps it looks like there's construction going on for an extension of the Metro BikeLink Trail, from Memorial Hospital up to at least Lebanon Road. It looks like there's grading, gravel laying, and foot bridge installation occurring, but I can't find any information or announcement on that extension happening. Everything only mentions the construction of the phases between SWIC and Memorial Hospital.

Need training for a manufacturing job? SWIC is building a $20M academy

https://news.stlpublicradio.org/educati ... 0m-academy

In an effort to fill job openings in the precision machining industry, Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville is building a $20 million manufacturing training academy to prepare students for the workforce.

Construction on the building is expected to be finished in September. After the academy is outfitted with equipment, it will be open for students in August 2024.

Brad Sparks, the dean of Technical Education and Workforce Development at SWIC, said students will learn skills that could land them jobs that pay $35 an hour, with the possibility of getting six-figure salaries with experience.
