Anybody know if there are any updates on this proposed 90 story tower? Last I seen was in january of 09.

St. Louis Magazine recently ran a great profile on developer Kevin McGowan, president and CEO of Blue Urban. He's been great for St. Louis and his business continues on while many of his colleagues have fallen by the wayside. He's done some great work downtown and I appreciate his vision.

The article touched on McGowan's desire to build a signature skyscraper downtown, something that has been discussed in urbanist circles for some time now:

(McGowan) is even passionate about building a new skyscraper that symbolizes St. Louis to the world. McGowan was ready to announce the project a year and a half ago, but he's put it on hold until the economy rebounds. Still, he's adament that it will come to fruition.

"We built something that the world knows, but the Arch is a glass ceiling in development in St. Louis, in that we don't build anything higher," he says. "The shadow of the tower I propose will extend to Chicago, Dallas and beyond."

He's dreaming big! That's great, and a new skyscraper will happen when a company decides to put their headquarters downtown. If a business will sign a lease for 30 floors of office space then maybe a big tower breaks ground. That's the basic hold-up. There's land and the desire on the part of developers. If an tenant to occupy the majority of a very large tower can't be found then smaller towers may be built.

^ I would love to see this or any tower built Downtown. However, at this point, the demand for office space is not there. The vacancy rate is high downtown. I just don't see a project on the scale of the MW Tower happening anytime soon. Even when we get out of this recession, there will still be a bad taste in the mouths of companies and developers. I think the approach will be cautious for some time.

PS^^ When I first started posting on this site, I did exactly the same thing as you. I posted new threads on various topics, where older threads already existed. Go to the site search, enter the topic (ex: MW Tower) and find the existing topic, then give it a bump. Just a bit of advice.
