I don't know who all has heard of the Mapping Main Street project, but it has been promoted on Planetizen.com and NPR among other outlets. Basically the idea is to go and photograph "Main St." everywhere they exist in America so that we have a record of what Main Street America really looks like. I live in Springfield so it was easy enough to snap a few shots over the weekend, but there are some other beautiful pictures on the project's website (as well as the Flickr group Mapping Main Street) that shouldn't go unnoticed. Since we're in the realm of Outstate MO, I'll go ahead and recommend you check out Jefferson City's photos as well.

You'll find Springfield's Main Ave. is pretty underwhelming, but I don't think it's ever been the main street through town. I'm within the letter of the project, if not the spirit.
