I heard that the Mangrove in Forest Park Southeast is closing - unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to check it out.

Let's hope that another restaurant operator sets up shop there soon. I'd hate to see that renovated space sit vacant for a long time.

Take a look at: http://www.stlalamode.com/ They said that the Mangrove has signs in all the windows and doors that read: "Dear Valued Customer: Thank You! It's Been a Pleasure Serving You! Re-Opening with a Great New Concept Soon."

Unfortunately, they also stated that JaBoni's Bistro at the northwest corner of Manchester and Tower Grove, has closed.

unfortunate-

I took the girlfriend to JaBonies (sp?) last summer for her birthday, it was one of my top 10 meals out I ever had (and fellas, I have had some good meals out) I have been wanting to try the Mangrove for months, but never got around to it yet.

Guess I was overly optimistic about these two places leading a retail revitalization charge in the FPSE. But then again the pioneer projects always face a uphill battle, perhaps the best thing is that the buildings are restored and awaiting new, hopefully lucrative, establishments.

The Mangrove is reopening -- with the liquor license it needs to stay competitive with the bars down the street. It could stand to restore its original affordability, though -- we FPSE residents ain't exactly wealthy, ya know.

JaBoni's is still open, contrary to rumors. There's a suuden new owner. It hosted Mardi Gras and Super Bowl parties this weekend.
