Here are a few photos I took recently. It's coming along nicely. The ivy, which blanketed the front of the building, is gone.

Downtown lofts edge westward with Majestic Stove complex

By Tavia Evans

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

02/02/2006

The wooden timbers and steel support beams inside the old Majestic Stove buildings had to be sturdy enough for the cast-iron wood-burning stoves once manufactured there.

Now, those support beams are part of new loft apartments, carved inside of the former headquarters of the Majestic Stove Co. The new loft units are taking shape among other historic buildings where residential lofts have been converted from former industrial and manufacturing buildings on the western edge of downtown St. Louis.

In 1999, developer Robert Wood purchased the Majestic Stove buildings, which includes 2020 Delmar Boulevard and 2015 Lucas Avenue. In 2001, Wood also bought the Leavitt Box building, 2019 Lucas Avenue, the former headquarters of the Anchor Steam Laundry Co. The three properties cost about $1 million, Wood said.

The pieces of the puzzle are coming together. I?m looking forward to seeing Adler and Majestic Stove opening. Hopefully some small businesses will sprout around this area. It would be great to see restaurants, pubs and retail around this area.

I just drove through that area. Our West Downtown lofts look like they'll be the equivilant of your typical city's loft district. Washington Avenue wasn't typical, it was beyond that and more. This is still awesome, and very St Louis, but what I mean is, many other cities are turning their old warehouses into lofts, and we've been fixing up architectual jems. Now, we're running out and heading to the warehouses, it seems.

Updated yesterday at MayorSlay.com.

Majestic Stove Lofts is a Bob Wood project that will, says Angela, set aside 50 of its 120 rental lofts as ?affordable to moderate income tenants? ? and contribute some economic diversity to the loft district?s burgeoning residential population.

i was worried about the occupancy rates of this apt, but i'm glad i'm wrong. it seems to have a decent number of residents that have moved in. can't wait for adler, the edge, and packard lofts to open up. i hope at some point this will spur further infill around the WLD. i heard a hair salon is moving into the bottom of 2020.

Yea, I drive by there a lot and the parking lot is now quite full with residents cars as well as quite a few cars on the street. Seems like this place got a lot of people in and didn't take very long to do it.
