Also, if you want to buy any Cardinals World Champions stuff, Macy's has a good selection.

Does anyone have any pictures of the improvements? I still have yet to see them? Also, does anyone know if they have/are they going to do anything different as far as Christmas window displays?

The DT store hours will be extended but I don't know the details. Maybe check out their web site?

As far as doing different stuff, they ran a big ad in the paper on Sunday that said they were bringing Santa back to downtown.

Fields State Street should be the model downtown should emulate. Visiting Macys Herald Square is always a disappointment especially when compared to the Chicago store.

Thanks for the photos, its never Christmas for me until I've been to State Street, unfortunately this year I don't have the time to go. Guess I will have to be contented with the same old train window on Locust…….

I saw that as well, and we made reservations to take 314 Jr. to Macy's to eat breakfast and visit with Santa in early December.

There was one of these events last year when it was still Famous-Barr. It's no Santaland, which was unfortunately eliminated in 1990, but it's the next best thing IMHO.

I'd like to see longer hours, validated parking, and more window displays besides the train display that always sets up shop at Seventh and Locust. I had read somewhere that Macy's might rotate Christmas displays between its downtown stores, but that was some time ago and I've heard nothing of that great idea since then. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I was unfortunately never taken there as a kid for "Santaland." Could anyone fill me in on what the difference was between that and just a regular Santa apperance?

^From what I remeber, Santaland was an elaborate setup with animatronics that you walked through. I believe it was in the auditorium there, no? The only thing I remember well was the traumatizingly, nightmarish talking tree that they had back in the late 80's.

Ah, happy memories of an 1980's childhood. If anyone else has a better description/stories, please post!

TIAB's description is pretty much spot-on. I don't remember much about the toys per se, but I do remember getting a toy after visiting Santa.

Santaland was located in the old auditorium, which was either on the 9th or 10th floor. (I'm pretty sure it was the 9th, but I'm having a senior moment now that I'm in my early 30s!)

ALSO;

The Macy's street windows have been closed for Christmas decorating as of today. The new Macy shades/curtains are nice covering the windows and the Christmas windows will debut shortly (according to customer service downtown - who said they are "excited" about the new windows) and the famous Christmas Train window will debut again as well.

How about an URBAN ST. LOUIS FORUM MEET downtown at the Macy's on December 2 (Saturday). We could meet after lunch at around 1:30 p.m. and walk through the floors of the new store... see the santa set-up... check out the windows and coffee at Starbucks next door... Just an idea... anyone suggestions or OK?

I too was interested in knowing if people would be interested in a holliday forum meet, since some of the out-of town members might be coming into town. I personaly won't be in town untill the 22nd, but I think the idea is right on.

I like this idea. Should we set a vote or a poll up to kinda figure out how many?

You guys should start by creating a new thread "December Forum Meet". Sounds like a great idea, wish I could be there.

OK, here's the deal. It is hard to set up a time, date, and poll here for forumers to meet. It is the holiday season and I know that many of us are busy during this time of year... BUT, if you can make this forum get-together ... let's try it!

This could be a sidebar forum get-together if you will.

I have decided to set up a REGISTRATION EMAIL. All you have to do is let us know you are coming. Email us with your name and that you plan to attend (also include your forum login name). Again, this is just an easier way to see if there is any forumers interested in meeting.

I will keep everyone up-to-date here and in the email. I have set up an email just for this meet.

send to:

macyssantameet@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance!

If anyone gets the chance they should go down to Macy's this evening. They have dressed up all the windows for the holidays and will be unveiling those at 4:30 I think. They are also illuminating the big tree at Keiner Plaza and then Santa will be making his way down 6th street with Snoopy in his sleigh. This will be a really nice event for the city and for families. And nice to see the holiday windows coming back as it has been forever since they have done this. Maybe the tradition of people coming downtown just to see the windows will return once again.

I passed today at lunch. The northwest corner had a huge model train setup complete with bridges, mountains, factories, billboards, roads, a hobo camp, and of course, many trains. I watched it for a good 15 minutes! The other windows were covered, apparently for the big opening later.

Was there a little homeless guy who pitched a tent in the middle of the trainset?

Actually, three of them! :) Although I guess in fairness, they did have a boxcar.

Visited the store this morning at about 9:45 - decent crowd for as early as it was, certainly nothing like the "Black Friday" crowds that we always hear about on the news. It seemed like there were a lot more people there when I left.
