^Man, that can't come soon enough. That's great news, and I hope the work is done yesterday. (And the buildings get sprinklers installed quickly.)

State Rep Collins takes her complaints about LRA lot maintenance online.

What is the LRA's budget for lot maintenance? It'd be great if the state could chip in, considering it has played a role in why they are vacant.

My understanding is that she and others are also trying to find out about the contracts awarded to those supposed to be maintaining the lots. In several instances the city has said they can only mow the grass, hence the sidewalk access issues, only to find out that the contract awarded had brushhogging or similar services listed and billed for.

It would go a long way if we prioritized clearing near sidewalks/property lines and only addressed the middle of the lots when they have the capacity.

It would also go a long way to be honest about work being done, not closing CSB requests automatically, and insisting the current trimming schedule is fine when some properties have clearly been missed for a year or more.

A lesson here on government vs contractors?

STLToday - St. Louis agency to offer $3 million for LRA rehabs as part of tornado recovery efforts

The city's development arm is dangling a $3.25 million pot of money to rehab some 20 vacant homes owned by its land bank, pairing it with down payment assistance in a bid to lure more residents.

I'm super sad to see this - St. Louis gears up to deconstruct and demolish Club Imperial

The city cites a cost of $18 million just to stabilize the building -- then why not at least preserve the facade?

I had ChatGPT draw up a (rather fanciful) ruins park built behind a portion of the preserved facade. It has a stage for performances echoing the old Club Imperial.

Fortunately the city has like $300M in the bank.

Yes. Throw in a Tina Turner statue and some placards showing historic photos/Tina and Ike performances on the remaining facade and it could be a nice attraction that draws people to the area.

Would require our civic leaders to actually think creatively which has been missing since the 1980s

I also think that it can just be saved. We have a surplus, ARPA funds and Rams money. Saving historic architecture and cultural institutions in our city especially the north side is a more than worthy cause

The most at risk thing in this city is our built environment. It is what once carried us as a great city and we have quickly destroyed much of it. Time to set a new standard of historic preservation in the US right here in StL
