^ well said. Too many people get hung up on LHTC in general and unfortunately unwarranted fears sometimes kills good projects. Ideally, such projects will have a market-rate component and solid urban design (e.g. McCormack Baron's terrific project in Vandeventer) but the former isn't always possible. The latter though should always be examined. I couldn't find any quick info on progress of this particular project, but if it is moving forward hopefully it is a step up from some of their other new construction examples. (Capstone should have X'd out their Sullivan Place design and started over. This group is also behind the Plaza Square tower that was redeveloped for seniors, which is great.)
Anyone know how far construction is along on this project? I know the site was prepped earlier in the year but actual construction hadn't begun.
This place looks like utter crap...super super super cheap looking housing with a horrible relationship to the grid. I've seen more urban developments in the far flung suburbs. Unfortunately, much of the near northside is redeveloping horribly with cheap, suburban styled housing that will look horrible in 10-20 years. There is also a lot of re-concentration of poverty on the near northside, which cant be good for the city.

^ here's google maps of the Biddle side of the superblock from June when the landscaping was yet in but everything else pretty much completed.

yeah, that whole near-northside is a big shame... from the super-block warehouses to the concentrated poverty by design to simply bad design, it is going to be difficult to get a coherent neighborhood out of this jumbled mess. Choice Neighborhoods grant, which we have a strong chance of getting, has the potential to help some but it can only go so far.
