A new Costco at Lake St. Louis Blvd. and Hawk Ridge Circle is on next month’s Planning and Zoning Commission agenda.

I'm surprised they didn't try and go closer to Chesterfield. Based upon relatives and coworkers who live out that way/shopthere, apparently the Manchester Costco is a hellish madhouse that could use some relief.

Yes, a Lake St. Louis Costco is practically an exurban location and a signal of more sprawl. But it shows you the trends since they're cautious on their store placement.

The fact they still don't have a metro east location is telling of what they think of growth/business on that side of the river.

The Costco on Manchester is actually the lowest trafficked in the metro area. U-City #1 and South County #2. I think what your friends/relatives observations mean is that all Costco's are hellish madhouses in terms of traffic.

I'd assume the decision to drop the new store in Lake St. Louis is to capture both the O'Fallon and Wentzville markets.

A second location in St. Charles County has been a pretty much confirmed open secret for the past 6-8 months. They were looking at several sites out west to pull in the Wentzville and Hwy N corridor residents as well as those in Warren and Lincoln counties.

Interesting about Manchester. They act like its worse than the Brentwood Promenade.
  • I'm guessing South County is pulling people from Illinois.
  • And while I hate big box destruction of established neighborhoods, U City being the busiest isn't shocking.

I live by the U city one and go often, I never feel like it’s THAT busy. I guess it does seem like there are a lot of people there at times but usually the checkouts go fairly fast.

Location wise I’m not surprised it’s the busiest though with none east of it.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't find a place to build one in the miles of strip malls in the Chesterfield Valley, although Costco isn't big on being attached to other retailers the way Lowe's-Sam's Club-Best Buy-Michaels-Walmart form that 3,500-foot retail centipede.

I think if there wasn't a Sam's in Edwardsville they would have already put a Costco there.
