Mixed-Use Development Project Breaks Ground near Emerson Park MetroLink Station

Today marked the groundbreaking of a $17 million development in East St. Louis adjacent to the Emerson Park MetroLink Station, Jazz @ Walter Circle. The $17 million development is a public-private partnership between the East St. Louis Housing Authority (ESLHA), Hampton Roads Ventures and Dudley Ventures, and is the first in the nation to combine public housing development funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development with New Market Tax Credits.

Seems like TOD. But first, anybody know how much parking this development includes?

I don't see any mention of parking...

What a good looking project, also looks like the first true TOD for the region

In the rendering it looks like a 60's style mid-century modern design, which I'd certainly prefer over the faux tudor-style that is often used on this side of the river.

Very cool. This is going to look nice from the freeway, just before you approach downtown.

I don't think it's terribly good looking at all, but it's still a big project for East St Louis, and it is far more attractive than the suburban looking Parson's Place nearby.

What's really smart is that East St Louis is focusing its best projects along side the freeway. This is giving, a city with an image problem, the ability to communicate with people in the region, simply on what people see on their way to work in St Louis.

^ I'd take this in FPSE instead of the Aventura.

Agreed. I was very excited to see new, residential development that isn't the standard vinyl-sided HUD-house going up on the east side. It's a smart, modern design that is way better than anyone could have expected. You'd like to see it at the Aventura -- hell, I'd love to see it at the Bottle District!

Looks good to see the final product from the freeway or metrolink. Glad to see this up in East St Louis. It gives visitors a good impression , right before they reach the Stan Musial Bridge.

^ Illinois gets it, its hard for me to fathom why we haven't seen similar developments on the Missouri side near metrolink stations.
