I'm tired of these poser sports bars in STL labeling themselves as such.

Here is a sports bar:

-Good, cheap food that is bad for your heart

-Hot waitresses

-Large selection of cold beer

-Lots of quality TV's with every subscription sports package under the sun

-Nice memorabilia

Unfortunately, too many sports bars in STL do not meet the most important criteria and that is the sports packages. It is SO frustrating trying to find a game in town that doesn't involve Mizzou, Rams, Cardinals, Blues or another team that is close by. Half of these places don't know what DirectTV is when you ask them and then when you ask them if they are carrying a certain game they react as if you just asked them to explain differential equations in 5 words or less.

Is there a sports bar that meets the critieria in town that I don't know about? If so, please let me know because my search for a perfect sports bar in STL is frustrating.

As much as it disgusts me to say this, the only place I can think of like what you are describing.... is in 636 land. Amerisports Bar & Grill, at Ameristar in St. Charles, sorry.

But they carry all games on like 20 something screens plus private booths with televisions mounted at arm's length which let you choose which game you want to see. Maybe Pinnicale will fill this gap for us downtown.

That's the only one I could think of also and I have been to it a few times to watch games that nobody else picked up. The only problem is that it is all the way out in St. Charles.

The Bottle District has a Rawlings Sports Bar & Grill planned, which could be exactly what I'm looking for, but that won't be ready for a few years.

Who wants to open up a sports bar with me? I might have to take matters into my own hands here. :D

They're not bad but the problem is trying to get them to put on a non-regional or top game from a subscription package, if they have them.

Aside from the place in St. Charles, they are the closest thing.

Nelly, or Nelly's cousin to be more accurate, is planning on opening a sports bar called Jerseyville in St Louis.

I've only got great things to say about DB's on S. Broadway. They added a lot of new screens and features early 2005. It's not an ESPN Zone though - just a neighborhood place.

Great topic...

I think Ozzie's in Westport fits the bill.

I prefer something a little less on the gigantic side. ESPN SportZone is just to big and overwhelming for my taste. Don't get me wrong I think it would be great to have one in St. Louis.

Here are some of the places I like to watch games in St. Louis, unfortunately none are in the city.

Buffalo Wild Wings - West County

OB Clark - Brentwood

Ozzie's - Westport

Tin Can on Morganford is good about the sports packages but they don't have enough TVs and it is a little to small.

I agree. They especially usually cover the hot waitresses criterion especially well. I only found this place a year and a half ago. Who knew there were bars east of broadway in soulard?

I can't remember if they have satellite or not. They might but the people I talked to were probably so clueless about it that I didn't want to drive out there and risk being disappointed.

I forget about BB Wild Wings. I'll have to call around and find out what sports packages they get.

Thanks for the input guys. This won't be a problem for me next year when I have satellite and purchase every sports program under the sun!

Ozzie's does have satellite - I watched a game on satellite there a few weeks ago. Ozzie's and SportsZone are both good places to catch a game - if your game isn't one of the top games being played, it's a good idea to call ahead to see if they can show it for you.

I would say Sports Zone over Ozzies just because I hate Westport. Such a mess that place is. Continue to talk like Yoda I will.

Actually, I'd say Flannerys is moving up my list. SLUAB, if you're looking for UAB games, I don't know if they can help you, but as a football fan, I went there a few sundays ago and had a great time with all the plasma.

Yeah, SportsZone is definitely better. I bet Flannery's would show UAB on at least one of their smaller tvs if you asked for it. The way they have their tvs set up is like a sports orgy. It kind of reminds me of a Vegas sports book.

I don't know if Flannery's has improved, but I went there last year to watch an Illini game that was televised on ESPN + and they didn't have it. I guess they didn't feel like paying for ESPN Full Court. It cost $100 for residential, I am sure it is a heckuva lot more for a bar.

From my experince ESPN Zone does not meet many of those criteria. That is unless you want to pay $8 for a beer. Way to commercialized for my taste. Give me a good local place any day. However, if anyone knows where I can get ACC games let me know. I will be there in a few weeks wanting to see my teams.

My favorite sports bar is the Sportszone, but trying to follow your team on one of there many TVs can get tough especially if you don't get a sound feed. In Chicago I know they have bars that dedicate themselves to certain teams so if you are looking for an Illini, Packers, Irish or God forbid the Hawkeyes you can usually find a bar to cater to your needs and be surrounded by fellow partisans. Watching your game really depends if ESPN is carrying it on their Full Court package at all.

That said if you want to watch ACC basketball, sushiq, there is a good chance the game will be carried on ESPN or ESPN2 on any given night. I've been to an ESPN zone once and I really liked how you could watch the game inside the restroom on flatscreens above the urinal. I can't really remember the pricing since it was New York and everything is expensive there.

ACC - bah. Who needs a sports bar when ESPN is kind enough to show seemingly every ACC game!

I want a club with no limits; a lot of nudity, and decent visual art. It also shouldn't have a name like "club electro," "club mars," or "club yadda yadda."

It should be called "Wendy's Bed and Breakfast."
"I think their undisputed masterpiece is ‘Hip to be Square’, a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics."

I knew about the Rawlings place but it's probably 2 years away. However, Buffalo Wild Wings has been very accomodating to my collegiate basketball needs. They have my business for now.

they should put an ESPN Zone right in ballpark villiage that would be so awesome. It would go well at the ground floor of one of the highrises they are planning.
