Denis, you brought my name up first in this thread. And, for those unaware, he did so in a separate thread, “State of Downtown.” I was only made aware by other folks that read this blog. I am not a regular reader. So I came to try to set the record straight. To give my perspectives. I don’t think anyone likes to be accused of discrimination. And, I felt if I wasn’t given anonymity (something I rarely seek), why should my accuser? We can all discuss ideas instead of discussing people. I am definitely guilty of the latter. “My” idea is one taken from other cities: no cheap liquor licenses, people must invest more so they’re afraid to lose if they behave badly; there must be a cost differential between full bar (read: clubs) and beer & wine (read: mom & pop restaurant); no more circumventing the neighborhood by catering booze into a spot where you refuse to go through the liquor license application process; & you must go back through plat & petition if expanding (clubs often start small then morph into large “ultra” clubs, packing in more late night behaviors that are expelled into the neighborhood after boozing etc.). Finally, but somewhat reluctantly, I think downtown should move toward a medallion system.

Washington AVE is a dense residential neighborhood. Club goers are largely NOT from the neighborhood.

Ok. This time I’m really out. Good luck everyone.

Why is St. Louis so often full of barriers - and the arbitrary? It can never, it seems, to just sail. Everything is a battle, an obstacle, a roadblock. Aren't you all exhausted? Learn to just sail St. Louis, so that you can catch up to the rest. You're being left behind.

I'm glad House of Soul is moving in fully - permits and all. The woman battled cancer recently. She didn't give up on herself nor downtown. She deserves to sail like all the others. Sail On.

Whew. I need a drink after reading all of that. I'm going to The House of Soul. What time do they open? Sounds like a great concept experience for downtown St. Louis.

Wait, I thought we were all just politician burner accounts.  You're telling me that dbInSouthCity isn't Elaine Chao and SymphonicPoet isn't actually Janet Reno?
SymphonicPoet IS Janet Reno... oh whoops. Didn't mean to out you...

I don't really think it's any big secret that SymphonicPoet is David Ackerman, seeing as I keep websites under that name to market my music. (Got tired of being confused with other David Ackermans. And I'm STILL getting requests for stuff that other people wrote, dang it!) Anyway, my basic point is it's one thing if you do it yourself, but really quite something else if you do it publicly to someone else. (And seemingly in a very hostile way at that.)

(An aside: It would have to be cool to be Janet Reno.)

Yes, exhausting. I'll gladly join you for that drink.
Sail on!
