What's the story on this column at the corner of Hampton and Columbia?

I don't think I ever even noticed that. Has it been there long?

^ that's my thought, too. My comment was going to be, "you mean the column I never noticed before? How long's that been up?"

Is that in the JoeyB overflow parking? I was across the street Friday night SoHA bar and grill and didn't notice it

Probably some neighborhood placemaking effort by the only people in the Hill obsessed with Corinthian columns. Though the entablature on the new column is awfully weird.

They've been using it as a branding symbol for quite some time now.

There's also one in front of the new QT at Kingshighway and McRee.

These came up during a Board of Adjustment meeting that I was at for an unrelated matter back in the Fall. There's going to be six of them if I recall correctly at neighborhood entrances. QT is paying for a couple of them.

I like it, at least in principal. How else would you brand the Hill. It does at least demonstrate a certain pride and gives a nod to the local heritage. If only those hydrants could have been sculpted into Corinthian columns :)

I like them, as long as they aren't plastic or PVC (which I'm sure they probably are).

They could just put an abstract art version of those fire hydrants on the pedestal. Or even red, green, and white paint cans.

I don't mind them.

Shoulda gone with different icons of Italian design... an Allesi espresso machine, a Bugatti, etc. And a cannoli, of course.
