Anyone know anything about Alandales Microbrewery/Pub in Kirkwood? It is on Jefferson at Kirkwood Blvd. across the street from Dewey's. I've walked by and it looks interesting.

There's a good thread in the stltoday.com "Eat At Joes" forum that rips the place apart. The food and beer are good but numerous people are complaining about poor and inattentive service.

I went there and also suffered through some of the worst service I've ever had. I worked at a waiter and bartender for a number of years during and after college so I know the industry. I saw and suffered through some of the most innefficient and poor service I've ever seen. And there's no manager or head server trying to control the room that can make even a green staff at a new place run okay.

I've actually had two experiences at Allendale's. The first was when my gf and I were walking through downtown Kirkwood and a waiter (not manager) stopped us outside, brought us in, gave us an extensive tour (including kitchen, brewing room, etc), and went over the menu in detail. We were sold.

We went back the following weekend for dinner, requested the waiter who showed us around. His section was unfortunately full. We then, instead, had to suffer through the worst service I've ever experienced. I, too, have been in the industry and this was abismal.

We'll go back, but they do need a manager on the floor to control the flow.

Very sorry to hear about the poor service at this place. Let's hope the fact that there's plenty of competition nearby (Ice & Fuel Co., Duffy's, PJ's, etc.) will make them raise their game.

Hopefully they'll get their act straightened out soon. There's not exactly a dearth of great places to go in downtown Kirkwood, after all.

LouLou, some of the worst service I ever had was at PJ's.

My family had dinner here tonight and it was very good. Service was very good and the place seemed to be filling up. I decided we had to try it when I heard it was all non-smoking.

The place is much bigger than I expected, with two different style rooms, and a large bar area. It is a microbrewery and the pint I tried, Vienna, was excellent. Parking was a little tight with Deweys and all the other places nearby. My daughter found the kids menu acceptable, which is rare for her.
