Asking posters to stick to the topic was not necessarily aimed at you.

Once again, there were two posters, whose comments were deleted, who chose to talk about food stamps, poverty, The Pursuit of Happyness etc.

Those topics are not what this thread is about. It is about the development of the Woolworth's building - not sub topics about food stamps, poverty and motion pictures.

^And if you want to talk about food stamps or movies or whatever else, start a topic within the urban living section. That's where those topics should and already are being discussed.

Affordable housing is appropriate as SLU is a few blocks away assuming you can get into that prison.

The surrounding buildings are quite expensive IMHO for a college student do afford. SLU offers a scholarship per their website, yet if one doesn't get it, well, then at least I can't afford residency.

They need to hurry up. This should have been done a long time ago. This is a prime location. Maybe Grandel Square could fill their vacant lots?

^

There are a lot of rich kids at SLU who seem to have no problem bucking up for luxury apartments in The Coronado, Continental, etc. The student body is pretty wealthy.

And pretty hot. There are some major babes living in the Coronado. I see them when I go to Boccardi's.

That wolworth's building is one of the most visible intersections in the city; it drastically needs a tenant, preferably a walgreens or the like. Its emptiness is demoralizing for the entire area. I don't see how grand center inc. can consider anything they have done beneficial with this important building shuttered.

I think you mean their mommies and daddies are pretty wealthy...but if they are so wealthy, how come they didn't go to a better school? Sorry, couldn't resist...

As has been mentioned, McCormack Baron has taken over development of this building. Big Brothers/Big Sisters is still planning on occupying about half of the building. We should see some progress fairly soon.

If I go to SLU for graduate, I will be sure to get the cash and reside in the Coronado. I won't have any problem getting the scholarship yet I like to argue for arguments sake.

Regarding SLU's academic level, for urban politics it is pretty nice as Swanstrom and others are big on regional governance. Comparing it to Wash U there is not any competition as Wash U is not big on urban politics. There are other schools though like USC, Berkley, U Chicago, etc., which are also an option. We will see what the best deal happens to be.

If you are going to compare overall rankings then Washington University is a better choice.

Then again one could say the rankings are not subject to peer review and are elitist thus biased towards the socially connected schools.
