There's been a couple of articles in the Post Dispatch the past week about the Goldenrod showboat. It is dangerously close to the scrap heap. I’m somewhat ashamed to say I didn’t know much about this boat before, but after what I’ve learned in the past few days, I really don’t want to see it go. It spent over 50 years on our riverfront, was registered as a St Louis city landmark in 1972, and was the last showboat to work the Mississippi. The dock owner where it is currently moored bought it at auction Saturday, with the initial intention of scrapping it. However, they've agreed to work with a group that presented them with a petition to find a suitable owner who would want to rehab it. But time is very limited.
An individual running the website http://www.goldenrod-showboat.com is essentially the one spearheading this effort. There is a RallyStl idea 'Revive the Goldenrod' http://www.rallystl.org/ideas/Detail/1447. I contacted him, and he was unaware that it was up on Rally. I encourage you all to vote for it. At the very least Rally can draw more public awareness to the effort.
