According to Sauce, Dierdorf and Hart's downtown location has closed. Their West Port location remains open.

I figured their days were numbered with the move of Mike Shannon's and the opening of F15teen.

Not to mention Carmine's. And why would Shannon's affect them? They were actually closer in the previous location.
I hadn't been to D&H's in many, many years. Not since they moved from Union Station, and even quite a few years before that. Nothing against the place, just never seemed to get around to it (which in my case, unfortunately, is true for a lot of good restaurants).
Oh man, that s*cks. D&H was a great lunch place. You had the white linen tablecloths and fantastic burgers and sandwiches (plus the 'starch of the day' and 'vegetable of the day' - very cool) and all at a very reasonable price. They didn't even gouge you on soda and iced tea like some places. My gut feeling is that downtown is now at the saturation point for restaurants, or slightly above. Too bad D&H was one of the victims; I always had a great meal there.
I never even thought about going there. welcome to 1985. not sad at all.

Same here- I haven't been to D&H's since they were in Union Station, and there are many quality restaurants I never seem to get around to trying either.

It may not have been your cup of tea, but I hate to see another downtown business close. D&H's still seems to have some fans (the Westport location is staying open after all, too bad I never go there) even if they can no longer make a case for a downtown location.

And they call me negative. At least I try to give an honest opinion whether the place is open or closed. That, as opposed to wishing for more downtown businesses with one hand, and stabbing them in the back only after they close with the other.

Well Shannon's new location is further south, so it is in a better position now than before to draw the south of market office crowd.

..and in a worse position to capture the north of Market office crowd, which is, you know, where D&H is/was.
^ Given the lack of restaurants south of Market, I though the D&H location in the Gateway One building placed them pretty well to serve the south side, more so than Shannon's old location.

What are you talking about?
According to Sauce Magazine, G.P. Agostino’s is going to be taking over the old D&H downtown location after closing their Ellisville restaurant. Apparently they're making very few changes to the place and will be opening fairly soon.

Great news! I've always heard nice things about Agostino's, but I could never bring myself to drive to far West County when there's not exactly a dearth of excellent Italian food within the City of St. Louis. It's also very encouraging to see another West County establishment give downtown a vote of confidence in a time period when there's been some bad news about downtown development (and the economy in general).
Plus, Agostino's is making the move even though completion of the new I-64/Highway 40 stretch between I-270 and Kingshighway is still a year and a half away.
I bring up the subject of 64/40 reconstruction again because I'm reminded of Giuseppe's, an old-school Italian joint located on the opposite quadrant from the Feasting Fox at Grand Boulevard and Meramec Avenue. Supposedly they stopped opening for dinner because many of their patrons were from West County and wouldn't drive to south St. Louis because of the highway closure. (Yeah, right. Or could it just be that they refuse to reinvent themselves, to make their restaurant appeal to new customers, and blaming the highway that's caused much less inconvenience than people originally feared is more convenient?)

EVS Realty Advisors Inc. recently said that Gio’s Ristorante & Bar will open on or about Nov. 15 in a newly designed restaurant space located off the main lobby of Gateway One in downtown St. Louis. Gio’s will be operated by renowned restaurateurs Dominic and Jackie Galati and their partner John Ruggeri.
The Galati's made their debut on The Hill in 1971 when they opened Dominic’s, which serves continental Italian cuisine. In 1997, they opened Dominic’s Trattoria in Clayton.

Very interesting, that this is a Dominic Galati operation. As this used to be also a Dominic operated restaurant several years ago. Same space, same Dominic, now back again. And is this the same Ruggeri as the Ruggeri's on the hill? But what happened to the Giovanni deal?
Gio's not open yet? It appears that there's still work being done and 'Coming Soon' signs in the windows.

I've noticed they hung a sign up on the outside of Gio's. They also tore down the old awning from Dierdorf and Hart's. I'd imagine it's opening soon, the banner outside says 'opening November'
Grand Opening is next Friday, January 23, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:00pm.

Obviously this establishment won't be run by the people behind Agostino's as Sauce reported several months ago. However, just as an FYI, I noticed last week that the building that once housed Agostino's at Manchester and Clarkson roads has been demolished. I'm not sure what's going in its place, and I know it's no huge architectural loss, but it's too bad since it's one of the few things on that road that isn't a fast food fry pit, a car showroom, or a gas station.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear this place will open soon. Bprop- those are the hours? Surely you jest!
