Bummer. I've always hoped that Gateway could pick up some major events and become a player in the auto racing scene. Few other cities have a major racetrack so close to Downtown. The blimp views are awesome.
This is a shame. The parking situation is bad as are the gates. IIRC, the entrances are basically at the opposite end from the area where all the sponsors/vendors hock their wares.
NASCAR is about sponsorship and major corporations want an area to market to fans. Gateway seems to lack the space.
MIS (Michigan) has a similar highway separating their parking, but there is a pedestrian bridge that dumps you right into the marketing carnival.
Sad thing is, a lot of NASCAR fans like Gateway's track, feels to me it's the surrounding areas that weren't thought through.
