They had signs up telling motorists of the closure, but I didn't see them as I drove home yesterday. Not sure if they came down or I just missed them.
I was totally shocked to find eastbound FPP closed at Des Peres today. Maybe I'm misinterpreting the maps that were available, but my assumption was that a big label saying local traffic meant I would be able to take the Parkway all the way to DeBaliviere to get home.
Traffic in and out of DeBaliviere Place has been nothing but chaos for the past year, but this is ridiculous.

That's what happens when dozens of streets are arbitrarily closed, turning entire neighborhoods into giant cul de sacs.hiddeninput wrote:

Free the grid!
westbound Interstate 64 seemed normal yesterday around 4:30pm when I drove home (I get off at Kingshighway) and it was just starting to backup right at Kingshighway which is pretty normal for that time
edit: 12/6 edit. Traffic again was normal on interstate 64 around 4:30pm again. So people that are using Forest Park are clearly using local alternatives as the interstate doesn't seem affected

Cones were being removed this afternoon and it appears to be open to the public at this time.
Unfortunately, they picked the same weekend as the Greek Festival, which has taken two of the lanes of FPP. Result? Traffic was worse than ever, with many angry horn-honking motorists!
Drove through twice this weekend. Very...disorientating. But I'll get used to it. I just hope it doesn't mean there will be backups from the new intersection west into the park. The benefit of a parkway like this is that it bypasses the local intersections. Now it bypasses one fewer, so it is that much less of a parkway/expressway.

I think the idea is that once it reaches the CWE it's no longer a parkway built to get to 170/Clayton but it's just Forest Park Avenue. Connects CWE with Clayton, reduces load on Lindell. I doubt there will be much backup going into the park since there's not road access into the park from FPP.
Used the new intersection yesterday for the first time. Big improvement, was great to turn left onto Kingshighway from FPP!
Glad you liked it.
I travel almost daily from the Loop to Grand Center via FPP. Personally, I hate that there's now a long light at Kingshwy and an immediate one at Euclid.
I already miss flying under Kingshwy at speed....

I find it very strange that the lanes on FPP don't line up properly as you cross Euclid (from either direction). You're forced to make a quick little jog to maintain your lane, and hope the guy next to you does the same.

I didn't even notice that driving west the other day, but there was enough oddness from leftover construction anyway that I may have been paying enough attention to the cones that intersection quirks didn't really bubble above the level of the subconscious. Is this something that decent striping will solve? I wasn't entirely in favor of this, but I also don't feel it's a big change, so long as they get the timing right on the lights. Hard to know exactly how to work that one.

Yeah, some striping should do the trick. They also need to do a better job removing temporary striping from roads... the ground down pavement and old paint is usually still visible and confuses drivers. If anything, when they grind down the old paint it still looks as if it's a lane stripe to follow.
Prime example is FPP heading west at DeBaliviere. They had temporary striping that jogged the lanes to the left but it was only half a$&ed removed. I've had to quickly veer around people who try to follow the ground down lines.
