I really wish that Forest Park was going to be adding a sand beach or shut-ins-type development with this waterways project.
Somewhere within the borders of St. Louis city, we should have something like this. I believe it would do extremely well.
If not Forest Park, where? Chouteau's pond? Tower Grove Park?
I'd really like the ability to kayak through the park, but that would be a massive undertaking
I wish they'd allow private kayak-sized boats on the areas you can already go with the rental boats. Then they could gradually modify bridges/rapids as necessary to expand the area you could go with them.
Apparently we used to have a pool like this, and I'd heard about this once, but this was the first time I looked it up... but we used to have one.
The Fairground Pool, in St. Louis Missouri, was one of the largest pools in the American Midwest measuring 440 feet. The pool was able to hold from 10,000 to 12,000 swimmers at a time.[2] During this time period much of the country was suffering from segregation... (rest of the story)

We desperately need one of these back. Barton Springs in Austin is incredible, we don't have anything natural like that but it'd be great to have something.
Everybody knows that St. Louis has lost a truly painful amount of its history over the last seventy years, but it was painful to see just how we lost our history in this instance. I knew nothing about the Fairgrounds Park swimming pool or the ugly story that brought about its end.
I'm sure it'd be absolutely shocking to see how many things in St. Louis have shut up and gone away because of racism, hatred, and bigotry. Heck, we were willing to displace 25,000 people in the name of racism and urban renewal. So disappointing.
I'd be all for Fairgrounds Park getting a new swimming pool or sand beach, especially considering the new north-south Metrolink line will go to the park, but I do worry about its draw from the usual places. But maybe that shouldn't be a concern. There should be more city attractions put in north St. Louis and I don't really care what people in south St. Louis or the Central Corridor have to say about it.
That said, Chouteau's Pond would be a great option if it could ever be built. I have my doubts. Another big but likely implausible idea would be a swimming beach at the Arch grounds, but I don't know if the federal government -- or the city of St. Louis -- would go for that, even if the "national park" is mostly a mowed lawn instead of anything natural. I do bet it would draw some crowds for downtown, though.
lol...what vibes? That's the precise problem with it currently. It lacks a vibe entirely. There is no energy there. It's actually tired and sad at present. Everything in this conceptual presentation is a welcome, necessary change. I think the team that came up with this plan have really hit the mark hard! I hope deeply it changes in every fathomable way possible.
Snow Kreilich Architects is working on this, the design consultant with HOK on the soccer stadium. So we can definitely expect slightly elevated design and finish. I have high expectations.

^Thats a catch 22 when building a rink...It's all concrete. The building itself looks to be a nod to the current stone cladding.
Loving the rooftop cafe. We have our extended family Christmas in STL biannually and Steinberg is always on the to-do list. Fun for all ages. This will be very welcome in our clan.
