So what is the story behind the tree removal southeast of the Worlds Fair Pavilion?  Hate to see old trees go.  If it was just one i would have assumed normal attrition but it looked like a handful and some quite large...

I didn't get the species, not sure if it was Ash related... I usually assume if something new was being constructed I would hear about it here.

Does it have to do with the Natural Playscape going somewhere in that general area? BTW i find FPP
Does it have to do with the Natural Playscape going somewhere in that general area? BTW I find FPP not particularly great at promoting upcoming improvements and the plans for construction with the general public.  Just my opinion.

Per STLMAG A-List Awards:
NATURAL ADDITION
Forest Park’s Forthcoming Natural Playscape
It isn’t what you might imagine. There won’t be plastic swings or slides. Instead, the 17-acre play area, slated to open next year, will comprise all-natural materials and span a range of ecological areas: a spring, a wetland,a meadow… Located between the World’s Fair Pavilion and the Jewel Box, the area is intended to encourage kids to embrace the outdoors while restoring the park’s natural habitat. It’s a timely idea.

Hmmm...  It does seem like the spot i am refering to.  I am not necessarily against the idea, depending on execution but seems odd that a installing a natural play-scape requires cutting down large established trees... :(

I hope i will like it in the end.  I usually do.

I heard at the Clayton-Tamm Community Association meeting that a Kaboom! playground is going to replace the aging playground currently located East of the Turtle Park parking lot and restroom.  That area south of 64 is still technically Forest Park and this project is going through the nine-step advisory board review process.  I don't remember exactly which step it's on.

Really looking forward to this. I'd like to see the SLPS soccer field near the tennis stadium get turf, proper grading and bleachers for spectators. This would be an easy fix and a kind gesture to the students and families who go to these games. Remember, St. Louis does not have a single grass field in decent condition for high school soccer. Artificial turf, yes, grass no.

I’d like to see the Davis Tennis Center revamped to host mid-major to major tennis events.
While I’m not a huge tennis fan, it seems like this could be a missed opportunity, assuming the site has the acreage to be revamped. Obviously, I am speaking without knowing much of anything regarding what this effort would require.

Lots of pics in the link Seattle posted above. I'm a bit surprised that lawyers still allow this sort of thing these days. Lots of hard, heavy objects.

This area of Jefferson Lake is scheduled to be re-built with viewing areas, stairways, and landscaping. It's gonna be beautiful.

Framer, where did you find this? And when will it be completed by?

It's part of the overall waterway improvements planned by Forest Park Forever. Their site just says "in design", so I don't know when this part will be done.

FP Forever has lots of info online, but sometimes it's hard to find. You have to search through some of their old blog posts or press releases etc.

BTW, here's their "before" shot; my pic was taken from a slightly different angle:

Man, that'll really liven that corner of the park up if built out like that. Hopefully it comes to fruition soon.

They really need to fix the kerning on the new-ish "Forest Park" sign in the southwest corner near Skinker and Clayton.  It drives me nuuuuuuts.

And as for the water park idea... I always bring up Barton Springs Pool in Austin because its just amazing and I've never been. But this would be an interesting Forest Park idea - maybe a bit too un-parky for Forest Park though... https://www.austintexas.gov/department/ ... rings-pool
We don't get enough consistently super hot days.  we have about 2.5 months of consistently 90+ days.  Austin has 5-6 months of that. In the past several decades, Austin has average ~30 days of 100+ degree weather, where St. Louis averages 3.

The Forest Park Forever Campaign website is outdated by a couple of years.  Based on the website they are going from top to bottom.  The Nature Playscape is under construction and the Central Fields was just finished.  I would assume the waterway and Jefferson Lake improvements will begin after the nature playscape complete based simply on the website, but I have no idea or inside info of the current plan.

I would like to see them continue this north through the park to West Pine instead of dumping out on the sidewalk. For those of us who like biking we are either forced to ride on the sidewalk or busy Kingshighway for a couple of blocks.

Yeah... I can see why just about every biker in St. Louis would want this to go to West Pine. What is the sense in dropping the path off there?

Aren't they potting to eliminate the West pine connection from Kingshighway?

Doesn't appear to be a specific Zoo thread so I’ll just leave this here. Nothing major, but the Zoo continues to improve itself in new and innovative ways.
