Please, everyone, do your part and contact Favazza's, Hill 2000, and the Preservation Board to let them know your distaste for these demolitions.

Don't know what their plans are yet? According to a call I made to Favazza's, they don't have any. They simply want to tear the structures down and get rid of them. One of them has water in the basement; the other has mold. That's apparently reason enough to seek demolition. This will likely become a large parking lot.

We can't keep sighing and throwing our hands up after each building is sacrificed for the next parking lot. We have to try to stop plans that are bad for our city. So please make the necessary contacts, especially if you live in the area.

The buildings were taken off the agenda. Not sure why.

The Board did heed the Staff's recommendation regarding the building in Hyde Park, it will not be [legally] demolished.

I noticed activity at the Favazza buildings today. Is the demo back on?

There are actually demolition applications still pending for both properties (5209 and 5211-13 Southwest). They were pulled from the November 2009 Preservation Board Agenda, so I wouldn't doubt if they are working something out with the Building Division, such as an emergency demolition permit, to get the work done. My dad works in Building, so I will call and let you know.

I drove by this morning on the way to work. The building closest to the restaurant (5209 Southwest) is on the way down. The second floor except for the front facade has been taken down. Emergency demo permit would be my guess. Glad there are a lot of other restaurants on the Hill for me to take my business.

This is ridiculous. F**k these guys. What a waste. I can't believe they were able to circumvent the pres board like that. What's the F***ing point.

PostMar 02, 2010#14

I called, there is a demo permit issued on the 18th of Feb for 5209, but not one for the other building. The gentleman at the building division said that it was a regular permit, not and "emergency" and that "emergency" demo's are only issued for city projects, not private projects. I have a call in to the CRO, of course, nobody is there.

^I'm guessing some sort of deal was worked out with CRO. Ridiculous.

I'm beginning to wonder why we even have a Preservation Board. Seriously.

That's a pretty good question - anyone want to compile approvals and denials by the Preservation Board over the past year or so? Michael? Matt M.? It would be interesting to see what/who was denied as opposed to approved.

For what it's worth, there's a sign on the fence that says "Patio Coming Soon".

I was at Mr. B's. An employee from Favazza's was there very excited about their new patio and expressed amazement on how carefully they palletized the brick, saying "it's going to be recycled."

Did you introduce him to the forest? He appears to already be acquainted with the trees.

The gf & I will be in town visiting friends next weekend. We're having dinner with them on Friday night and they suggested Favazza's. That place is on my boycott list due to their demolition of historic buildings and was promptly vetoed. We're from out of town and only knew about this from blog posts...maybe our friend's awareness will be raised as well now.

The building Favazza's tore down was ugly. Get over yourselves.

^ I think it's OK if you choose to eat there and I hope that no one would tell you that you're crazy for doing so, but people have a right to choose where they eat and to support businesses that value our historic infrastructure. It's one thing if the preservation board considered the issues and decided that demo was OK, but this was another example of people doing whatever they want with a callous disregard for processes and our historic cities. That said, I didn't eat there before and I won't be starting now.

The building sucked, and was not used. Now a patio will be put in its place, which will greatly increase the astethic of the surrounding area and enhance the summer dining experience of Favazzas. What else is there to say?
