Seems every time I drive by of late, there's all sorts of people hanging out.
I just hope that new ownership changes the name. It's the only thing about the place I don't like. It sounds like a Caligula inspired sex club.
Erato is the muse of lyric poetry -- specifically love poetry -- and is sometimes accompanied by Eros, the god of love.

Named for Erato St in New Orleans
The new owner needs to change up those wine racks on the back wall.

I like the name Erato. I don't understand why you all don't. It's not like they named it the St. Charles Natural Light Emporium...although the irony would be really funny.
And I dig the wine racks on the wall also.

I assume this has closed, I drove by yesterday and it appeared to have a sign on the door for a liquor license hearing

Really? I was there on Saturday night. Quite busy.
One of the bartenders told me a few weeks back that it had been sold, but the new owners planned to keep things more or less the same, and add a bigger kitchen. Looked like they'd done some renovations back there already.

i like errato- but it is kinda pricey for the hipster stretch of s grand- and also the acoustics suck. i have a little trouble hearing and the noises bounced all over so i couldnt hear what the person across the table from me was sayin.
just sayin- put some carpet up in there or something!

Acoustics in any place with high ceilings like that are pretty poor. As with most of the new urban places reemerging, you'll find that the acoustics are not very good.
Mods, can we change the title of this thread, especially since Erato isn't in trouble, and their business has been quite good of late.

Last night we walked to Chuys in Dogtown: at 8:30pm on a Thursday there were only 4 tables occupied. Felix's and Seamus looked just as slow.
We drove down to Tower Grove to check some houses out. We stopped in Erato for a smoke free drink and to go over the places we had checked out. Erato was hopping and we had to sit down at the far end of the bar.
I think Erato is doing fine.
Almost every time I've been in since this thread was posted, there's at least been somebody in there. The only time there wasn't, was when I stopped in to buy a bottle of wine when they first opened. I'd say business has been quite good, although I think they pick up during the summer months, IMO.
Another thing about the price, is that most places that are wine bars, are trying to move wine through bottle sales out of the store. That means you go in, but a few bottles, and leave. That's why it's so much more expensive to drink in store. They aren't buying wine you can get at Schnucks or Shop N Save, they're buying more expensive wine.
So, when you can, you should try to buy a bottle here and there from places like Erato and 33. Plus, you can really tap into the knowledge of the employees.

do they sell cheeses to go also? i will stop in there for my next bottle- but i need cheeseeeeeee to go with it:)
I don't know. I know they have cheese on the menu, I don't know if they sell it to go. I would guess they would.
If they don't sell it to go, just keep saying "But I waaaant some cheeeeese!!!" Then they'll say "Do you want some cheese with that whine?" And you say, "Yes! That's what I've been saying!"carrieocity kills wrote:do they sell cheeses to go also? i will stop in there for my next bottle- but i need cheeseeeeeee to go with it:)

what4 wrote:3000 sqft for $109k? sounds like a good buy or am i missing something?
I don't think this includes any real estate. Just my gut reaction.

109k buys the business, not the space. you'd have to take over the lease.
Here's hoping that whoever buys it will bring the place back to what it was before it changed hands the last time. Since it was sold, the menu got smaller and the bar was not nearly as well stocked as it used to be.
That doesn't seem to stop the hordes of cougars who show up for Wednesday's tango (if you'd call it that) night, though.

Anybody know what's going on here?
I noticed it was closed several evenings last week when it's usually open. Then Sunday I saw someone in there painting. Hopefully, that's a good sign - who paints a place that's closing?
New owners?
