I'll tell you that El Burro Loco didn't lose $350,000+: they just decided not to pay taxes. That place would be jam packed at 9:30pm on a Tuesday while the rest of the CWE was crickets. I had coworkers from out of town staying at the Royal Sonesta at the Chase and I took them to Brennans and with us there might have been 8 customers in there. But El Burro Loco was rocking and rolling with that front dining room completely full.
It'd been obvious they were struggling in some way. I too remember it packed and doing a great business 2-3 years ago, but recently first I noticed they had done some half completed interior renovation which left the bar area looking ghastly and then that they had lost their liquor license. Also their Downtown location closed. I'm sad to see them go because they were one of the few remaining options for late night food in the city post-covid but I could tell that it was mismanaged.

That being said I am sad to see them go. There need to be inexpensive places that are open late to get food.
And I'm not some Karen about drinking. I think the drinking age ought to be 18 or 19. But it still stunned me how much they openly flaunted their "we don't ID" mantra.
