Escape From New York?

I know. That was in the 80s. I actually haven't seen it. Might rent it sometime to see if I can recognize any buildings.

^If you're curious, I think a thread is out there regarding the movie and the sets used for it. I'd search for it, but I can't figure out how to use the search function on this site.

A sports/dog park would provide services to residents that do not currently exist.

HULK SMASH!!!!!!!

You think the bums smell bad, just go walking past a dog park. You want to take your dog off a leash, go to the country.

I went to a dog park in Austin and I don't recall any foul smell. Of course, the park-goers were required to pick up after their dogs.

I routinely go to the dog park in Soulard and there is absolutely no smell. I have no idea what you're talking about. Dog parks are great places, ESPECIALLY in an urban environment. That being said, it would be moronic to tear down a building to build one.

Sorry you have such a negative attitude towards downtown but it actually keeps improving as time passes.

Sorry if I'm coming across as negative. It's more a reaction to the idea of building more buildings. My wife and I walked up and down Olive, Locust, and Washington last week and there are still plenty vacant spaces (sorry I don't remember building names or addresses. I just remember things like that old bridal shop and the building that used to have a cigar store at the ground level).

And I should have been more specific - where are the outdoor recreation facilities (a.k.a. free)? Or do I get a free Y membership as a downtown resident (yes, I live and work downtown).

As for the bums, I generally ignore them or just say "sorry." However, if I'm playing hoops outside, I'd rather not have to deal with bums. That's my point.

(the only time homeless on basketball courts is useful is when I'm jumping them with my skateboard).

You don't get a free membership, but the Y usually runs specials for people who work downtown - if your employer has an HR department, you might want to check with them to see if they can get you a discount.

There's also Fitness Factory on Washington, if you need somewhere to work out.
