Here's a great documentary.

One thing I can say for sure is.......Despite its racial and social problems and intense urban decay (caused by depopulation and neglect), St. Louis is still a beautiful region. Many of the clean flyovers presented in the documentary are breathtaking.

Imagine if St. Louis could really get its sh*t (act) together completely!

way to go arch for ruining my going out for lunch.... anyway, I recommend watching this. I'm pulling my thoughts together on this but one of my initial reactions is it is so sad that what is being promoted here is so basic and taking someone from the outside to connect ourselves better.

I've seen this before and it's definitely well made and thought provoking. Though I do find that it lacks some nuance (like the part with "Paul McKey"--there could've been more of a critical edge given all the controversy about the project... though what I got from it is that it seems McKee genuinely wants to help, however misguided his vision and methods are) and kind of glosses over what are deeply complex issues. Granted, it was only an hour.

I like the idea of bringing all of those people together though. I wonder if anything concrete has/will come out of it.

Couple of impressions....

-- excellent imagery
-- seems a bit like pr rather than a true documentary
-- vague on what the on-going plan was that he left these folks with other than increasing connections
-- too bad this wasn't made just a tad later; i.e. after Ferguson which really would have driven the point home that we are all connected and its not just a city poor/suburbs rich issue
-- hopefully these corporate folks really spread the gospel within their networks to increase their engagement with impoverished communities and people and do their best to re-center the region closer back to the core
-- nice that Roosevelt High is where this started and that Mrs. Spence is involved there
-- I do get the sense that Mr. McKee means well and hopefully is learning; while not mentioned here it was a great sign to see him mention working with McCormack Baron, which is an indication that he realizes he needs more capable people involved who know how to develop in such neighborhoods in a community-minded manner.
