Let's not forget that West County Mall is pretty much inaccessable by pedestrians. Supposedly on a nice day Edward Jones employees can't even walk over to the mall for lunch
Technically, they can, but its a very long walk to get to the one and only ped entrance to the mall at the south end of Ballas Rd.



The inaccessibility of area malls is a topic I plan to cover on my blog in the coming weeks.

Five Guys Hamburgers, Jimmy Johns Sandwiches, and Qdoba are all open now in the new Des Peres Schnucks plaza at the corner of Ballas and Manchester Road. Schnucks looks like it will open in September.

Tuesday I plopped down on the leather sofa in front of the fireplace and watched the Cardinal baseball game. I was upstairs at the new Des Peres Schnucks store at the time.



Better than I expected. Walk-in referigerated wine and cheese area with automatic doors. Another one for cold beer.



The cafe area has a pizza bar, and you can take food to a lot of places to consume, including the upstairs balcony with tables, chairs, fireplace, sofa, TV.

It really is a nice store.



I've heard there are redevelopment plans for the old Des Peres store as well.

Given that a lot of the Schnucks family lives within 5 minutes, you'd figure this store would get all tricked out with the best stuff.

Restaurants. The existing building is going to be torn down, IIRC.

I've also heard about a major retailer that's considering the old Schnucks location. Can't divulge who it is though.

In this morning's Post-Dispatch, there was a mention that they were trying to put two unnamed retail stores and a sit-down restaurant into the area that Schnuck's use to occupy. It also mentioned that Chick-Fil-A was interested in opening a location there, too.

Was it Michael's?
Michael's will take up about about 23,000 square feet of the almost 58,000-square-foot old Schnucks building. The remainder of the space will go for another junior anchor and smaller retail and restaurant businesses.

Mosaic, a popular restaurant downtown, wants to open a place at the eastern end of Des Peres Centre, Holman said. The development will also feature a free-standing Chick-Fil-A. Existing businesses at the site will have the opportunity to stay. Businesses still operating during construction are Cartridge World, a UPS Store and a Nail Salon.
