Holy hell.  Every building on that street is boarded except for 4902.

A few buildings on this block have already been torn down.  I remember looking at it on Google StreetView a few years ago (after noticing all the Aldine buildings on the LRA list) and it looked like something out of the Walking Dead.

It's a shame, because they're great buildings that if renovated could be really nice homes for a lot of people.

Veterans "tiny houses" on Aldine

On a different site I am sure, but it drives me crazy when they are building "tiny houses" and demoing buildings that could serve veterans just down the street - Housing homeless vets is great, I think the tiny house deal is a bad gimmick, we have housing, rehab it and build something to last more than a fad.

In theory that would be ideal, but it’s probably just cheaper to demolish and build new than to rehab (and that’s IF this is the group that’s behind the other demos). Unfortunately money is the biggest deciding factor. I’m just glad they’re building in north city and not out in cornfields.

Agree that reno >>> tiny houses. I used to live in a 100 year old sh*t hole in CWE during college. It was clearly built as a boarding house around 1904; big bedrooms and a skinny/scary hallways connecting to bathrooms/kitchen, no communal rooms. While these could be used for veterans/homeless, administratively it's much easier to just give each person their own place/limit communal living. Seems like there'd be a lot of liability issues.
