I had occasion to look at these recently. They're located in the 5400 block of Delmar west of Union. Fourth building has been completed, four units per building, with two-car rear garages. Start at $225,000 and seem to be good quality construction (at least from what I could tell). A private street, Delmar Place, has been built behind the townhomes. There will be townhomes built along Delmar Place as well, with front-entry garages. No word on what those will start at. Nice project and qualifies for WashU's home buyer assistance program.
Sorry--I just posted this in this wrong place.
Better than a vacant lot, but they are far from great. The white wooden steps look small-townish and cheap, the vinyl siding on the sides are junky, and they faux-historic facades are way too overdone in this city.
When can we get some modern infill like Chicago? Don't local developers ever visit other cities for ideas?

They started building this crap back in 2001 or so. Thanks, Town & Country homes. They've built the same designs in Skinker-DeBaliviere and Gaslight Square.

Besides the siding and the look, do you think there are other quality issues with the construction?

that pretty much sums it up. This goes along with the "ANY development is better than no development" idea which is a VERY scary philosophy to follow for this city..

One word: UGLY. I used to think that anything was better than a vacant lot. Not anymore. This development is absolutely hideous. I can only imagine what it will look like in 20 years.

The vacant land previously earmarked for another row of townhomes on the south side of Delmar just west of Union is about to be foreclosed on:
Foreclosure set on Delmar Place project
Foreclosure set on Delmar Place project
Construction of Delmar Place’s townhomes began in late 2003. Twenty-four of the planned 40 homes were built before the project stalled. The plan had called for two rows of townhomes in the 5300 and 5400 blocks of Delmar, just west of Union Boulevard. Only the row closest to Delmar was completed.

If the east Loop continues to develop and if the streetcar is ever built this will be a better location, kind of stuck in the middle at the moment with not-so-encouraging surroundings (vacant lots, etc.).

Interesting. I always wondered who would pay for those townhomes. They were quite expensive and not in a great part of town. There was a murder at that urgent health care facility just in December -- almost across the street from those townhomes.Hugh Ferriss wrote:The vacant land previously earmarked for another row of townhomes on the south side of Delmar just west of Union is about to be foreclosed on:
