Can someone please tell me why there is not ONE decent sports bar around these parts... One that has the direct tv NFL ticket...I'm not talking about a crap shoot like 0B Clarks... I'm talking about a real (sportsbook) type sports bar where I can watch numerous games at once... Any suggestions????????

I don't know..CJ Muggs?
J. MCGRAUGH’S BAR & GRILL, 8405 Maryland, 863-8555, is a good, casual spot, but while they have several TVs it may not be everything your looking for. Either way, I'd call in advance to see if they have the package. I would asume Muggs would, as its in a hotel, but McG's you should call.
Corwin's on brentwood also an option.
West End...
Culpeppers?
Bar Louie is almost certain to have it.
Thats about all I can think of in that Genre...

^ya but those aren't sports bars... fine for watching one game... terrible for sunday afternoons. when numerous games are on at once... I know lester miller (busch's grove) is building one off clayton road in ladue but it's still in planning... I'm trying to find a place similar to a casino sports book...the only one in town i can think of is St. Louis sportszone..but that is so hard to get to... and always packed...
ameristar has a great sports bar... I'm just wondering if there is anything like this near clayton/cwe?

Culpeppers has one or two tvs. No packages. The tvs are small. I would not recommend that for viewing sports.
Bar Louie has a shockingly little number of tvs.
Tom's on Euclid is your best bet, but I really hate that place. We were there on a Friday night during the NCAA Tourney, watching games, and then, out of nowhere, they started up karaoke. Loud and obnoxious. They market themselves as a sports bar, yest cover up a tv, and let dunk college kids shout off key to madonna songs instead of letting their customers view one of the year's biggest sporting events of the year in peace. And the music they play is almost as bad as Flannery's.

I think I know what you're looking for and the answer is no. There aren't any sports bars in the central corridor that I know about. Thank god for DB's in Soulard...the best sports pub anywhere.
For supposedly being one of the few great sports cities, I don't know why you have to drive 45 minutes to find a sports bar. The one in Ameristar is awesome although it's very uncomfortable.

Interesting this gets brought up.....Ill add what I posted in another forum about this..
I was recently on a trip up to Columbus OH and happened to spend a chunk of my Saturday watching some games at a bar. This was a pretty typical sportsbar inside, but they had a huge back patio. The patio had multiple TV's, and two big screen projectors. Part of the patio was covered (where the Bar and big screens are) and part not. By all appearances, the covered part is enclosed in the winter.
I got to thinking, why are there virtually no bars in the city with this type of setup? Am I missing something here, I have yet to see one. On an early fall Saturday or Sunday, I would love nothing more than to sit outside and watch the games. I don’t see many bars that have a few TV's on their patio, much less a big screen. And I don't mean Shannon’s. No reason to go and pay $5 for a plastic bottle unless you are leaving the cards game. Shneidhorsts (sp?) may be the closest to this setup with the big screen, but that’s no sportsbar. In an ideal world, it would be a setup similar to Flannerys but completely outdoors. I realize this would be cost prohibitive to a bar owner, but something simple with a decent amount of TV’s would probably be quite a draw.
And no this bar I visited was not next to OSU nor was it a college gameday.
BTW, Kilkennys in Clayton is decent to watch a game but closed on Sundays. I agree though, a lack of great sportsbars in clayton-CWE.

Ideas for a great business plan?
Bring back the St. Louis tradition (which is now dead) of beer gardens but combine it with sports, throw in some other "best ofs" and you've got a gold mine...if it's in the right location...probably the central corridor.

My initial reaction to this issue is that the CWE and Clayton just aren't "sports bar" type neighborhoods. They're both very healthy restaurant markets, so if there was a demand for them there, I'm sure we'd have one.
St. Louis generally is underserved by that particular niche sports bar market you're talking about, but I see downtown or Soulard as a better fit than Clayton or the Central West End.

Flannery's on Washington has a good number of TVs and is not scared to have many different ones up.
But I do understand your lament. My previous post was just to wrack my brain to see if I could come up with an alternative.
Amerisports is probably the only really serious place aside from that. Rawlings Sports Grille needs to get here. Now. Wasn;t there a sports bar below Hooters in Union Station that had a bunch of TVs?
And, Isn't there a Carwash on Hanley, just north of the FPP?

Steve I disagree - even the neighborhoods you point out don't really have good sports bars. Flannery's is close, but not really a sports bar.
It's sad when Hooter's is the area's best sports bar.

I can think of a couple of options.
1) Hooters downtown. While I'm not a fan of the place they do Sundays right. Hopefully they'll do like some of the other locations and list under each TV what games they will be showing.
2) DBs in Soulard. Kinda divey and small but they do have Sunday Ticket and always have a good mix of games with lots of TVs. Great greasy wings. I've ended up there a number of Sundays. And they are willing to change channels to accomodate.
3) We'll have to see if Bar Louie has Sunday ticket. They have tons of TVs but I think their AV setup might have them limited on how many games they can show. They run all their TVs through a RF converter so I don't think they can show every game.
4) A little out of boundaries but St. Louis Sports Zone in Kenrick runs the best setup this side of the river. Large place with lots of TVs and they know how to do things right. Gets pretty crowded so get there early. Be careful where you sit since some Bears, Chiefs and Browns fans go there every week and have the same spot. (Take Metrolink to the Shrewsbury station and then the #11 Chippewa bus.)
5) While it's not what you're looking for Scheithorsts does a great job with High Def. Every TV there is HD and they now how to work them. In addition the upstairs outdoor patio has a HD projector. So if you want to go to see a Rams game, Sunday night NBC or Monday night ESPN game in HDTV: they know what to do.
6) I really can't recommend the Kriegers across from Forest Park. They've got a bunch of big screens but have lights shining right on them. Plus the place is an echo chamver and is noisy as heck with the place 1/4 full.
I wish Buffalo Wild Wings would have gone into the plaza at the corner of Chippewa and Kingshighway as they planned to. But the landlord played too many games with the BW3 people and ticked them off.

I just don't think the CWE or Clayton scream "sports bar" to me. Or, to put it another way, if I were to do a word association with one of those nabes, a sports bar would be one of the very last things I'd think of. But hey, I'm just one guy.

Thanks for you help everyone... When it comes to sports bars there is truely a wide variety...some are pubs with a few tv's...some are like OB Clarks and have tons of tv's most of them are crap... Sportszone isn't more than 10 or so minutes from clayton...it's just hard to get to...
I will admit i'm pretty picky when it comes to my sports... Tv's just don't cut it... I like the wall of screens approach you see at Sportszone or at the casinos... So i guess i answered my own question... I'll probably go to sportszone... any of you entreprenuers out there should open up a quality sportsbar in the clayton area...it would surely thrive...

Fox and Hounds has a location way out in Chesterfield Valley. I've only been there once but a location in the Clayton/Brentwood/CWE area would rock.

Sportzone was great for the World Cup. I saw several games there, including the final. It was packed. Unbelievably though, they were closed for France v Brazil.

The Sports Attic is always a fun place to go to catch a Cardinal game. Especially with playoff baseball quickly approaching. Hopefully the Cardinals avoid another 8 game loosing streak and make it in.
The Sports Attic: A free case of lung cancer with every sporting event!

I don't think Creve Coeur, Ballwin, South County, Fenton, St. Charles and O' Fallon Illinois are within the scope of CWE/Clayton.
Weber's Front Row in Webster is just as bad. Though the one room to the side with fewer TVs is non-smoking. I remember going to Webers one time for a Monday night football game. I am 100% serious when every single customer I could see was smoking. I was litteraly the only non-smoker in the room. The Sports Attic: A free case of lung cancer with every sporting event!

Any Mods willing to tackle a merge here?
It is a pretty poor market for sports bars.
Some notes I'd like to mention regarding that though...
Most sports bars tend to be a football watching place, with the ability to watch other sports as well. But football is king in most sports bars. Try watching a Cards game on an NFL sunday at the SportsZone. It's not a complaint at all, just an observation. St. Louis is a decent sports town, not a great one. It's a great baseball town, a solid basketball town, a decent hockey town, and a poor football town.
College football gets little play here because of the Mizzou/Illinois connection that have little to no history within the college football upper class. Pro Football was gone for years, and has a meager following at best (an example is how they are struggling to sell out games this year, despite a new regime, which would excite and ignite most other towns). So because STL has such a poor NFL/College football following, that hurts the sports bar market.
Baseball games you can watch at home every night. Basketball games you can watch at home four or five times a week for college, 7 days a week for NBA. Hockey is on all the time. Football gets play a couple days a week.
I love football. I wish Mizzou was on every weekend, and the Rams sold out like crazy (the way the Chiefs do in KC). But that's not the case.
You may dismiss my theory as crazy, but I'm sticking to it. STL needs to be a better football town, and more great sports bars will start opening.
