The property already has a use - grain elevator.

Wow! :o

IIRC, I think there was some talk about turning the Cargill elevator into a hotel some years ago. That was assuming Cargill was moving out.

does anyone know if there are any plans to do anything with the Con-Agra (or whomever's) grain silos across from the Arch? iirc, in response to the CAR effort, they said they would in no shape or form move their operations or silos, but that they would look forward to cooperation on sprucing up the silos..... I could see particularly a great opportunity for lighting and light shows at night.

btw, does anyone remember the light show that was on the river a few years ago as part of the July 4th events? that was pretty cool, and it would be great to have something more year-round.

Maybe Cortex/Solae can light up the silo as part of their expansion in the area? Would be a pretty cool beacon for the entire bio/plant sciences area...

The stuff on that link is amazing awesome.

Also, there's just too much gray blank concrete surrounding the Metrolink especially downtown. I wish it was covered with some art/graffiti/color. I wish the city would sanction some artists (graffiti or otherwise) to gussy up the gray concrete walls. Obviously, there would be an agreement to not do anything offensive, just some art. I was so sick of looking at the blank walls I was gonna paint some of it myself but I just haven't had time.

Here's an idea, give ten different artist the task of creatively putting the words SAINT LOUIS on ten different blank grey drab walls.

Should be on RallySTL - anyone can submit it... Perhaps the group doing the Cotton Belt Building would like this as Act II.

That would be great. Could give the CORTEX area a very unique "face" for people to remember.

^ and all CORTEX plans I've seen have the silos staying - they're still used, I believe.

It's interesting to note that the grain stored there today is quite different than what was stored there when they were built. Largely as the result of technology developed here in St. Louis.

I believe CORTEX is planning to light the silos, though I don't know if there is an actual timetable to get the project done. They have deep pockets and will probably do the job well.

Even if they could just pay for it, they'd be smart to engage the public, get people connected and excited. Would be nice if they'd partner with a local arts org and use local artists as well.

That's a big picture of Ted. He's either been eating blueberries or is dead. Perhaps Rally should only allow one (of course)?
