^ I gave you the total with the justified (1 total after 4 months of 2022).  It’s literally marked on the daily UCR, it’s been like that forever.

The practice of counting (maybe overcounting) justifiable homicides started long before Tishuara was mayor.

Even if you count all the justifiable homicides as homicides the last few years, the drop since the new Mayor took over still extremely impressive.

If St. Louis city maintains its current pace, we will end the year with 156 murders.

Couldn’t have summarized the propublica piece any better. When I reached out to the author to ask why not include year to date in 2022 and compare it to first 3 months of 2021, they said they didn’t want to confuse the reader. I would be too

Eighty eight people arrested in illegal street racing sting in Gwinnett County (Atlanta area). Sure wish we could see those kind of results around here.

April finished much quieter than the start of the month, which is great. I honestly think we're on trend for a <2018-ish total, and if we matched the previous 12 months, that'd be 184 total which would be the lowest since 2014 - would make for a great headline either way.

We are on a week long streak of no homicides. 4/24 was the last one

I'm still amazed when I see those 2012 numbers.

Sad to say: but what if that was the norm?

You've got 195 for last year, but it's 199 in the SLMPD stats.

^ most likely (and pretty positive the case) is that any cases that were still being investigated as possible justified classification ended up not being that

5 killed in shootings over the weekend, hopefully not a sign of things to come as it gets warmer.

Historically April/May through September has been pretty rough for St. louis... somehow we were able to buck that trend last year.

Let's hope this is just a weekend blip, which we get at least 1 of those every month. Having said that, May looks to be trending on the higher side so far...

PostMay 17, 2022#8717

We're up to 15 homicides through the 16th of May which equals last year's May total. Tough start for the first half of the month.

^ did we read the same article? He found 2 cars of 2000 (actually probably more than 2000 that are missing). Seems like it’s a waste of time, I can probably find a dozen walking around downtown any given weekend. And the city’s stop light plate readers tag 100s of stolen cars each day

It's from the blaze, not exactly a great source (or even a mediocre one)

Police and residents say it all happened after a group of about 30 teens got into the CityView Apartments early Sunday in the 1600 block of Pine Street.

Friends are staying downtown and witnessed this.

Two girls wounded in downtown St. Louis as fights lead to gunfire

ST. LOUIS — Two girls, 13 and 14, were shot and wounded about 8 p.m. Saturday in downtown St. Louis, police said.

Police said gunfire erupted as officers responded to fights among two large groups of juveniles at Chestnut and Eighth streets.
A group of juveniles scattered from the gunfire by running north on Eighth and Ninth streets, police said. Each of the girls suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh as they walked west on Chestnut Street.

Lovely.

It's happening  all across the country. Just last night, popular downtown entertainment districts in both Philadelphia and Chattanooga each saw three people killed and many others wounded when fights turned into gunfire.
