I don't think their goal of a local "downtown" has to be shot down just because it's viewed as an "at the expense of the city of STL/downtown CBD". To me, it means that more people want to be able to walk to places. There is no sense of "place" in Creve Coeur if you ask me, why not allow them to create one. Their "downtown" is currently an interstate and a busy street intersection. Allow them to create something more impressive and unique.

It's just an opinion. Read "I realize that this is not a huge development." There is no way that a downtown in Creve-Cour would effect St. louis' downtown. My point was meant to emphasize that I believe this development would just be emphasizing the "no-one goes to downtown" suburbanite mentality...maybe I don't express points well :D . Creve Cour downtown....Chesterfield downtown....O'Fallon downtown....

If you are looking for urban, there are allready plenty of places in St. Louis to accomodate that need. As stated, Kirkwood and Webster have very nice smaller urban areas, and both downtown and Clayton are both drawing in more people with new developments and refurbishments of old ones. I thought that the point of moving 30 minutes outside of the city was to escape an urban atmosphere. If urban is what you are looking for, St. louisans should start considering their options for REAL urban life, such as clayton and the city. More people looking at downtown St. Louis and Clayton means more new development for these areas, something we desperately need to continue to spur on as an ENTIRE metro. If you want to get away, get away. But if you don't, don't try to recreate a second rate version of what could be 10 times better.[/u]

I live right by this proposed "downtown" area and I think it would be great. CC is a great area, but there is no town feeling to it. Plus this would mean great things to property value in the area.

Yeah, CC's property values have really been hurting lately.
