New coffeeshop in a historic church in the Gate District. If your computer can process their overloaded website, the interior looks awesome.

It's a Christian (Lutheran) coffee shop. While I'm not very religious (and even less Lutheran), I plan on trying the place out when I get back to St. Louis.

Unless their coffee is a lot better than their website, they won't last long.

I work in Midtown and go to Crave all the time. It's not a "new" place -- I've been going for probably two years or so.

Even though it's affiliated with the Lutheran church, it's not really a religious eatery. They won't preach at you or shove "issues" literature at you or anything. They just pretty much give you food, which is great since I'm the very opposite of religious.

I'm veggie, so I usually get the chipotle sandwich, but they also have a mozzerella and tomato sandwich that's pretty good. The workers are super-nice, and there's a lot of light coming into the building. I always think it's cool when churches are reused as something else.

It's pretty busy around lunchtime during the academic year, but I think it's worth it. Pretty good prices -- my sandwiches are usually $4-$6. Yummy.

That web designer should be strung up by their thumbs. There's no excuse for designing a site like that.

holy cr*p....14 megabytes just to see the site?

Is Crave a charity? I'm confused..there is a link to "donate" on the site; it takes one to PayPal. Maybe they need to pay for server bandwidth?

Crave's an awesome place. I was one of their first customers back in 2005 and I still go there all the time to study. It's really popular with the SLU medical campus lunchtime crowd, and I dare say it is my favorite coffee shop in St Louis. It's both a church and a not-for-profit cafe, and they also rent out space for a daycare. They hold worship services on Saturdays, have live music most Fridays, but besides that there's no in-your-face prosthyletizing (except for the obvious fact that it's in a cool renovation of a historic church).

Like many local coffeeshops, they serve Kaldi's coffee. The food's quite good, especially the baked goods and little pizzas.

I'll also say that Crave has done more for the Gate District West neighborhood in 2 1/2 years than SLU has in 80. They've helped mobilize the neighbors to decrease crime and keep the area clean.
