Convention Center Parking Garage RFP

The Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority of the City of St. Louis is seeking redevelopment proposals to design, construct, and finance a new 778-space (minimum) parking garage on City Block 124, where a surface parking lot currently exists.

Do people really try and park that close to the convention center? That alley is so small it seems you would be stuck in traffic for an hour after a game. And do we need this for football? Or convention parking?

Great part of this is that the existing garage-- an ugly monster for sure -- is being demoed for ballroom expansion.

^ google satellite view is pretty interesting to take a look at parking in the area.... there is some event going on at the Dome and the existing garage looks pretty full. Over at Busch, there are ballplayers in uniform taking batting practice, but I'm not sure they're major league. Anyway, kind of fun.

While it's a horribly old, poorly maintained and an ugly garage, it is convenient for conventions. When I took the family to the auto show a few months ago when it was snowing and like 10 degrees it was nice to get right in and out.

Plus I'm guessing the Embassy Suites, Drury Hotel and Blues Hall of Fame would appreciate the garage

But for football it sucks. I swear I've walked by an hour after the game is over and cars are still lined up to exit.

I believe the running assumption is that the new garage is replacing an existing garage next to it. Thus accommodating the expansion of the convention ballroom space previously reported on.

I missed that Roger already noted convention plans to expand ballroom space. It would be nice if CVC would come out with some renderings or confirmation of intended plans going forward.

Maybe not the best thread but tried to a Convention Center thread with most recent postings. Maybe rename or if moderator can move post but I hope the discussion of the convention center doesn't get left behind once dust settles with football stadium

I think headline of Biz Journal article on CVC & the Edwards Jones dome is pretty easy to answer and said as much by Gov. Nixon. The question in my mind is will the political disconnect by the county hurt the CVC and convention business to the region. Especially when you got the robotics coming in.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has said he wants the city of St. Louis, state of Missouri, St. Louis County and private sources to split the cost of renovating the Edward Jones Dome into a full-time convention facility.

Funding for the CVC, led by President Kitty Ratcliffe, is provided by a 3.75 percent tax paid by visitors on hotel sleeping in the city of St. Louis and St. Louis County. The CVC manages and operates the America’s Center convention complex, which includes Cervantes Convention Center, 502,000 square feet of exhibit space, 80 meeting rooms, the 67,000-seat Edward Jones Dome, 1,400-seat Ferrara Theatre, a 28,000-square-foot ballroom and the St. Louis Executive Conference Center.
