Yesterday, I was talking to Anne, the manager of the Continental building, and she told me that they have an occupant for the main entrance of the building.  Nothing too exciting...  she said just doctors offices or something.  But still, it will be nice to have that awesome entry way redone and occupied.  She said that construction would be starting probably in January.  Glad to see a little less unoccupied space in Grand Center!

That's a beautiful building. I hope someone picks up that space.

I remember hearing plans years ago for some over-the-top plan for a French-themed dining thing with 6 different concepts in one, with a theater, a bar, fine-dining, etc... That would have been cool there, although probably would have never survived very long.

That was, I believe, a Cervantes-floated concept prior to the short-lived theatre restaurant that sprung up across the street.

Yes, the main floor of the Continental was leased by the VA. It was my understanding they would be using the space as a clinic, but I'm not positive. They signed a longterm lease for an astronomical figure...something like one million a year. I was told that all entrances used by the VA would be completely separate from those used by the residents of the Continental.

Personaly I've got no problem with a clinic in the Continental, but the VA Hospital is just a couple of blocks away. They seriously can't find space within their existing facility?

On Saturday I peeked in the ground-floor windows of the Continental Building facing Olive and could see that the new construction is well underway. The building permit posted in one window dates from early February and a veritable forest of girders and frames has already been installed, though there are no actual walls in place as yet. The permit doesn't specify the intended use of the remodeled premises.



Sadly, the glass is still broken out of the clock over the entrance to the Continental; perhaps they'll get around to replacing it once the remodeling is finished.

Looks as if there has been some issues at the Contenental Life Building. This is one of the greatest building in STL and hopefully they are able to stabilize things and get the building back on track as an elite apt building.

The Continental Life high-rise apartment building in Midtown — an art deco gem that developer Stephen Trampe breathed new life into a decade ago — is the subject of a legal spat between its owner and its former management company.
Owen Continental Development LLC, an affiliate of Trampe's Owen Development Co., filed a lawsuit in St. Louis County Circuit Court in May, accusing the Village Green Management Co. of failure to maintain the 25-story building, which has 107 leased apartments. The case was moved on July 7 to federal court.
Owen Continental is suing Village Green, based in Farmington Hills, Mich., for $1.85 million in addition to lost profits from the building.
Owen Continental alleges more than 60 grievances against Village Green, including failure to perform credit and criminal checks on tenants, failure to keep elevators working and failure to prevent prostitution and illegal drug sales on the property.
