Not worse as in Suburban Sprawl, But Worse in Types of Retail, Types of business, and overall appearance.

Like I said, development is going to happen here, and in my opinion it is about time, Columbia via rt 3 is only 12 mins from downtown STL... And the entire 255 area is farms and light industry.

Dupo if you have ever driven though it, or seen the development along the 255 beltway is less than desirable as an entrance to Monroe County.

Columbia has worked on specific design details and zoning indicating what we want built there. Dupo does not have the same standards or money to plan those standards and GJ. Grewe will be able to build a less exspensive version of the plan if Columbia Loses the product...

As far as the Lego Land. That appears to be a different issue, the GJ Grewe area is a master planned area and Lego land would have been south of the site.

The same people who opposed the Crossings, are the ones messing with lego land. I think a Lego land would be awesome, but I would also like some nice office buildings, shops, etc to bring in new customers and residents to help columbia first.

If Grewe doesn't go through, then the interchange is not built therefore no need to even discuss Lego land... Columbias interchange is going to be privately funded by Columbia and Grewe.

Not that I think this is going to go anywhere, but a guy in Southern Illinois wants to bring LegoLand to Southern Illinois between Carbondale and Murphysboro. Possibly along with a Zoo and a Water Park.

From the sounds of it, it is ultra, ultra preliminary and I give it about a 2% chance of happening, so I am not going to even open a thread about it in the Downstate thread. I just thought the people in Columbia would get a kick out of this. Coulda, shoulda, woulda .... it will wind up somewhere else and Columbia will regret it.

^Meant to put that up yesterday - hopefully they'll see the benefits outweighing the downsides that Columbia bought into.

FWIW, the new Structures Gallery at the Science Center has a semi-scale model of the Arch made out of Legos.

James May, one of the three hosts on the BBC automotive show Top Gear built a life-size house out of Legos, so I guess anything's possible with those things. 8)

The picture is of the house as it was nearing completion. Sadly, that architectural gem has already been demolished.

Back to the topic, I guess Columbia's loss may be Glen Carbon's gain? Guess we'll see...
