Really doesn't seem like a big deal, but this old Wal-Mart has been a huge eyesore and dead zone since the Supercenter was built in Collinsville Crossings.
'Long time coming': Collinsville makes way for new Kohl's

The former Wal-Mart on Belt Line Road in Collinsville was demolished last week to make room for a new Kohl's department store that will be built in the footprint.

U.S. Properties Group of Columbus, Ohio, bought the 99,364-square-foot building in 2008. The building has been vacant since the store left and relocated to a new 204,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter that opened in June 2007 at the 53-acre Collinsville Crossing shopping center off Illinois 157.

"Hallelujah," Collinsville Community Development Director Paul Mann said. "We're excited about it. It's been a long time coming."

The new Kohl's store is expected to be open by October.
