Does the 7 years apply to all city employees or just police?
I think I'm with you. Pols want to look like they're doing something. When it doesn't work, there will be a new goalpost erected to distract us.
OTOH, I wouldn't like my employer trying to tell me where I could live. And "knowing the community you're policing" well Holly Hills may as well be Chesterfield relative to Wells Goodfellow. And if we merged all the PDs there would be a huge area to live in if there was a residency requirement. It would be interesting to know how much crime in the city is by non-residents v city residents committing crime outside the city. Then bill each other for imbalances

^Completely agreed, people get really heated about this residency requirement, I think it is absolutely irrelevant.

It’s 7 years for just police and fire
And the City doesn’t tell anyone where to live. You can live wherever you want. Anyone that accepts a job with the city accepts conditions that come with it.

Stltoday - St. Louis workers have to live in the city. Bill on governor's desk could end that.
