The officer that comes to our neighborhood security cmte meetings lives in Chesterfield. Was he grandfathered in or is it after some number of years of service one could live outside the city?
Can leave after 7 years of service

And this whole thing is dumb

Does the 7 years apply to all city employees or just police?

I think I'm with you. Pols want to look like they're doing something. When it doesn't work, there will be a new goalpost erected to distract us.

OTOH, I wouldn't like my employer trying to tell me where I could live. And "knowing the community you're policing" well Holly Hills may as well be Chesterfield relative to Wells Goodfellow. And if we merged all the PDs there would be a huge area to live in if there was a residency requirement. It would be interesting to know how much crime in the city is by non-residents v city residents committing crime outside the city. Then bill each other for imbalances :D

^Completely agreed, people get really heated about this residency requirement, I think it is absolutely irrelevant.

It’s 7 years for just police and fire

And the City doesn’t tell anyone where to live. You can live wherever you want. Anyone that accepts a job with the city accepts conditions that come with it.

Stltoday - St. Louis workers have to live in the city. Bill on governor's desk could end that.
