^I figure that's what it mostly is. I have no desire to learn new names. Pick one. I still sometimes refer to the dome as the TWA dome. (Twa-dome. One word; two syllables. All silly. Though I do kind of miss that one now. For reasons that have nothing to do with a silly corporate stadium name.)

That’s in my neighborhood! There used to be a bullet proof widow to order at the KFC in that lot lol… Good Ol’ days!!! Walking from Clemente on division!

When I lived in Seattle’s U District, we had one near campus (in the middle of Seattle). Seattle also has a few others in dense city areas. They may well have no interest in opening in St. Louis City, but I don’t know that they’re at all adverse to urban stores (and their interior layout is more conducive to urban than most grocers).

I know Dallas has/had one in Oak Lawn similar to this if I remember right, so I agree that I don't think  an urban store set up that is keeping them from being in the city.

Urban TJs aren't some mythical creature - plenty of examples of them having urban stores in most major cities. The issue in St. Louis is that there are just one or two locations in the city that I think TJs would have major interest in. Think of the CWE basically.

I think CWE was the only city location they’d consider about the time that Whole Foods opened 6 years ago, but I’d imagine their target demographic neighborhoods are more plentiful now.

Near the target coming to Grand, on DeBaliviere (though I’m not holding my breath). They are pretty particular about where they open up.

Trader Joe's is incredible particular about where their stores go. 

I used to work for them back in the day when I lived in Kansas City. 

They look for high-traffic, high-income areas with lots of subscribers to Bon Appetit magazine. I'm not making that last part up. 

In St. Louis City, it seems you have a lot of high-traffic areas and a lot of high-income areas, but I don't know where they really cover enough of each other for the company to build something closer than their Brentwood store.... yet.

^Exactly.  Maybe they'd do an Iron Hill if there was a parking lot component, but DeBaliviere is definitely not close to meeting their requirements.

The DeBaliviere corridor is definitely not getting the tens of thousands of vehicles per weekday that the company is looking for.

I was thinking Midtown could possibly become a fit in the coming years, and Iron Hill would be a good pick for that as it does sit on Grand near a hospital.

I could also see them wanting to be part of a new development at a fixed-up Grand and Forest Park Ave. intersection five to ten years from now.

Brentwood is most definitely a "million dollar store," but the other stores in St. Louis County are not, and are more like $300,000 stores. 

I wouldn't count on them expanding anytime soon.

It's kind of a Trader Joe's thing to have small, frustrating parking lots. They are well aware of it -- and they don't care.

Supposedly one of the main measures for grocery stores is sales on a $ per sq ft basis as stores vary so much in size, customer base etc. So maybe it's not outselling bigger suburban Fresh Thymes, but doing better for it's size.

I've heard the claim the Richmond Heights Schnucks might be one of the highest $ per sq ft grocery stores in the country regardless of chain.
