As an expansion of the 12,000-acre WingHaven development in O?Fallon, Mo., Caledonia further expands the LifeWorks? concept created by McEagle. Reflecting the ?Live, Learn, Work, Pray and Play? philosophy, Caledonia will elevate routine activities to memorable family experiences. Anchored by a 14-screen cinema and surrounded by complimentary retail stores, Phase I of Caledonia includes 21,000 square feet of retail space and the introduction of Missouri?s first Great Escape theater?a 2,200-seat multiplex with stadium seating, luxury rocking love seats for couples, wall-to-wall screens and digital sound. The development also will feature a family-friendly promenade and plaza linking a series of Art Deco-style buildings and a series of hidden sundials that will use the shadows of structures to mark time

Yeah I'm looking very much forward to this. I have been to the Great Escape Theatre, and it is just amazing. The construction of it was very annoying though. I was trying to enjoy a nice lunch on the patio of a restaraunt right across 40, but all I could hear was the giant helicopter putting things on the roof.

This is a nice project, any ideas on when they will start construction? Also, will that large building on the other end of the Great Escape be a department store?

It would be nice if St Louis got a Von Maur or a Parsians. I like going to those stores. :)

Luckily, since this project is so far west, it will mostly compete with retail in Chesterfield (Mall & Valley) and Hazelwood (Mills), having very little impact on similar markets supporting the City (Bottle District) or even Richmond Heights (Boulevard St. Louis).

I don't think this development is going to be built now that Davis Street Land is building "The Meadows" just a few miles west down 40. 'The Meadows" sucked what ever life was left in this project.

Thats sad, what will go in with that theatre :(

I also notice this theatre's business has been hurt by that new Wehrenberg 14 Dardenne Town Square. They need to get something here to bring more traffic to this area!

Can you say oversaturation? I know there's significant growth* in the area, but this is ridiculous.

* -Unlike the chambers of commerce, developers, and other well-intended civic boosters within St. Charles County, I just can't bring myself to call the siphoning of residents and businesses from a neighboring county "growth".

Yeah, this is great. Where farmland used to reside there is botched New Urbanism which equates to sprawl. Lets keep moving farther West as gas prices continue to rise as well as infrastructural costs! Will this zero sum game ever end!!! How many more residents and business will relocate outside of the urban area? What will the Where We Stand report indicate in 2010? Another 21 percent loss in density? How do planners justify this as positive growth?

Bring more traffic to the area

Yes, and this attraction of customers from one area will remove customers from the other thus cut revenue which will be used to payback the bonds or whatever was issued to partially finance the project. This kind of competition illustrates the need for comprehensive planning across jurisdictions. Hopefully the lack of construction illustrates a decision to halt the project. Too bad the theater is already built with finances probably already issued.

I am so excited I will sing a song!
