My Grandpa told me that after the 1904 World's Fair the ferris wheel they used was buried in Forest Park.

That's the story. It is supposed to only be the big arms that held the wheel up, or something like that. Many people have tried to find it, but no one ever has. I think the last time anyone made an attempt was when Channel 30 still had local news and they xrayed a bunch of areas. This would have been in the late 1990's. They went so far as to dig in a couple of spots (pre-renovation), but came up empty shoveled.

^Yeah, I heard about the same thing...that the majority of the wheel was sold for scrap, but the "axles" were too big to transport, so they were buried on-site. The idea of a giant ferris wheel buried in the park does make for some good urban legend material, doesn't it?
