Has anybody seen this building, the one on the SW corner? I have no idea what it is, or who owns it, or why it isn't being developed, but this building needs to be watched. It is the coolest building. It's only two stories, but man is it cool. There needs to be a New Orleans Style Jazz/Blues Bar/Restaurant there, serving some fine Cajun/Creole food...I can just see it spilling out onto the sidewalks.

There are french doors that line Washington, and ample space inside with high ceilings, and a big second floor. I could only peer in the windows, but it looked like it was vacant. There was some stuff inside like a basketball goal and a motorcycle. I just can't imagine why this building isn't being developed.

Any news or info would be great.

I totally agree...that's one cool building. I've often wondered the same thing, why is it not being developed. But I'm sure it won't be long now. Let's face it...there just aren't very many empty buildings left for developers on Washington.

I thought someone lived there, on the second floor.

If somebody lives there, then it's really just a waste. There's nothing done to the outside, it's not taken care of. I could believe that because talking to the Valet guy at Red Moon last night, he said that there are always really nice cars inside the building.

No, it's on the other side of the street, and right next to a small surface parking lot. But it's on the corner.

The building goes along 15th and is across 15th from the new Lotus bar. And across St. Charles from Red Moon. It spans the entire side of 15th.

Yeah, that's the one I meant. When I cut and pasted that URL it was wrong because of the frames...

This is the one -

I don't remember the event, but it was probably five or so years ago they had all of those french doors open and had the interior space setup like an art gallery showing off someone's work. It is a very cool space, and having seen all the doors open that way, I can totaly see how it could lean in the direction of a creole/cajun restuarant. I have seen a lot of those open air restaruant/bar settings in New Orleans as well as in Key West. That type of weather just calls for that type of setting.

That's the building...:)

I'm glad you had the pic, because I've been looking for one.

I've never been a big supporter of Eminent Domain, but this is a good case, imagine how popular that place coudl become with the right ownership.

It's a very interesting building... It is very skinny. I'll try to get the dimensions of it, but in my opinion a restaurant in that building might be tough since it's so narrow.

You're not kidding its narrow. Maybe that's why its still empty. It could be expanded onto that parking lot next door, although I'd hate to see something built there that doesn't respect the uniqueness of the corner building.

It's narrow, but it's not so narrow that a restaurant wouldn't work. If you do it right, the close quarters makes it feel like an old school restaurant. I don't see any problem with the narrowness.

It is not too narrow for a restaurant. In fact, I think it is perfect for a restaurant. I reminds me of an Irish pub in Baltimore that I like. Think of the narrow restaurants in CWE and the Loop.

The parking lot goes with the Eli Walker building so I doubt it could expand that way.

I heard last weekend from one of the individuals who sells for the Annex and soon the Eli Walker building that the narrow building will become a Mediterranean inspired restaurant. He was talking about all the development around that area such as the Borders and possible parking garage in the parking lot space. I don't know if these are just ideas or developments in progress.

Mel,

That's great news. I think the building is more suited for a dingy cajun place with cool blues and jazz...but I love Mediterranean food, so that's good news.
