If you are a daily reader of NextSTL, you have likely already seen the blog post about the "Brickstarter" campaign that Old North Saint Louis Restoration Group has launched to stabilize and rebuild that beautiful red brick building they own at 1316 North Market Street.

1316 North Market is the historic building at center. New homes have been built on the surrounding vacant lots as part of the North Market Place development, a partnership of ONSLRG and RHCDA.

This is a rendering of how the building could potentially look after a full historic rehab.
More details about the buildings and why saving it is important can be found on onsl.org, NextSTL, and Preservation Research Office. ONSLRG is also posting updates on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
Donations of any type to Old North Saint Louis Restoration Group (cash, materials, dumpsters, labor) would be immensely helpful and are fully tax-deductible. We have already gathered donations of a small amount of cash, sand, masonry cement, a small amount of lumber, and use of scaffolding. In addition, Red Dot Studios has generously offered pro bono architecture services to design a stabilization and rebuilding program for attaining any necessary permits. However, we still need a lot of cash, materials, and labor. The total cost for a full renovation of this building could approach $400,000. However, substantially less is needed for a proper stabilization, and that is mostly for the cost of materials. Depending on the level of donations, different forms of stabilization can be achieved from a range of $5000- $50,000. Of course, better forms of stabilization will cost more, but will make the eventual full renovation easier to complete.
Donations can be made online at onsl.org via paypal (be sure to note that the donation is for 1316 N Market), by check (made payable to “Old North Rehab Properties LLC” and mailed to 2700 N. 14th Street, St. Louis, MO 63106), or by cash in person. If you would like to make a donation of materials or labor, please contact us at info@onsl.org or 314-241-5031. All contributions are fully tax deductible. If your employer has a matching program, please make note of that and help us generate even more funds to revitalize 1316 North market! No offer is too small, and please share this with your friends! We thank you for your generosity!
I am personally managing all work on this building. I will be eternally grateful to any of you that donate to this project. All donations go directly to a restricted account to only be used for this building. This is a chance to put your money where your mouth is and make a very visible difference in the St. Louis built environment. In the future, when someone tells you that you should put your own money up instead of just telling other people what to do with their buildings, you can point to this project as an example of what urbanists and preservationists are continually doing to make a positive future for St. Louis.
