I attended the meeting as well. Very good turnout, I think this speaks to how much people love our neighborhood. I have no doubt clayton will let this development proceed unless there is a lot more backlash than was on display at the meeting. My takeaways:
-Developers seemed to gaslight residents a little. Continually saying they are actually adding 5 parking spots (while requesting 2 spots on N rosebury be taken away for valet). Also repeated several times that with a hotel they are 'adding parking' that they wouldn't have to if the building was left as apartments (because Concordia is letting the hotel use a lot). Said the rooms will not all be occupied at the same time (hard to believe during wash u parents weekends etc).
-I have a feeling that residents that are for the development have garages, or parking spots, and are looking forward to new places to eat and drink
-Developer kept talking about walkable 'shopping' in Demun, where?!
-Developer Talked about how much they love the neighbor (they are not current residents) and want to show it off. IDK feels a little, 'the loop 20 years ago'. Everyone wanted to go there, only certain people want to live there, now look at the loop IMO!
-I honestly think Clayton should provide residents of N and S Rosebury with parking passes, that would ease my concerns about this project, as a resident of rosebury for 10 years
I am for the redevelopment of this building, especially the retail below. 24 rooms seems to much. Not sure if it is a thing but I would be more comfortable with 16 rooms (the original apt layout) or a smaller hotel footprint (8 rooms, + apts?). Obviously the money potential for hotel is endless because of the wash u parents (again something the developer seemed to gaslight us on a bit, saying they could make more money different ways/this wasn't for the money)
Anyways! My thoughts!
