As a Shaw resident, I'm excited to see this project close to completion. The buildings were a complete eyesore 1 year ago and now look fantastic.

It appears from the outside they are doing a respectable job of rehabbing the property. I look forward to viewing the interiors.

Looking good. This used to be a street where you keep your car-doors locked, and don't stop for anything. What a turnaround. And not just this project, but several others in the immediate neighborhood.

My wife and I are real bullish on this area. We are getting close to closing on a property there which we will initially rent out, and later move into. Shaw is still a few years away from being a real nice street, but it's certainly made progress. The fact that 15 $300K+ new homes are being planned on the block north of Shaw shows the neighborhood has passed the turning point and will continue full-speed ahead. There are still a handful of tenants that have problems, and there unfortunately is some vandalism still in the neighborhood.

With close proximity to Tower Grove Park, S. Grand, SLU, the Gardens, and hopefully a south-side Metrolink line, this area will continue to improve.

And once DeTonty gets cleaned up, things will really be looking good in Shaw.

I dropped by the development last night and was impressed with the interior finish work. Historic compliance with wood thermal windows, granite, stainless, new 6 car garage, etc.

These will be great for individuals looking for a low maintenance option in Shaw.

As Shaw Avenue is cleaned up, it already looks so much better in just a few years and the two "convenience stores" are closed, we'll see better tenants renting in Shaw.

Also, at Thurman and Shenandoah, Ryan's Market has been purchased by a local real estate agent and the store is closing in August. The building will be converted into office space or two townhomes. He's also moving his offices to the corner building. Across the street a new Cafe is opening June 15th.

Deals in Shaw are incredible right now. A 3000 Sq. Ft rehabbed home on Castleman is for sale for 219,000 or 70 psf.

New life comes to old apartments

A developer has breathed new life into some run-down apartments at the southwest corner of Lawrence Avenue and Shaw Boulevard.

Weststar Properties acquired the properties at 1911 Lawrence, 1909 Lawrence and 4002 through 4012 Shaw about a year ago. Since then, the developer has been converting 13 apartments in the complex to six two-story brick townhouse condominiums.

On Thursday, about 100 people attended a grand opening event for the former apartments, now called The Botanical Townhome Condominiums.
